There's not a lot of variety in the way video games present science fiction. For various reasons, game designers prefer to stick with what people already know. This means Star Wars, Blade Runner and Aliens.

The reluctance to go to unfamiliar places has been part of why there's an oppressive sameness to video gaming in general, and sci-fi video games in particular. Where is video gaming's sci-fi with a twist? Where are our Gattaca, Dark City, Clockwork Orange and WALL-E?
