SCI FI Channel is letting viewers know that the Jan. 16 return of Battlestar Galactica at 10 p.m. will run 3 1/2 minutes long, so make sure to plan ahead if you're watching live or set your DVR accordingly if you're not.
For those who miss it anyway, SCIFI.COM will post the extra minutes following Battlestar's West Coast debut, which ends at 11 p.m. PT/2 a.m. ET.
The final 10 episodes of Battlestar Galactica kick off with an episode entitled "Sometimes a Great Notion," which picks up the story from last June's cliffhanger, in which the Colonial fleet led by Adm. Adama (Edward James Olmos) discover Earth, only to find it a barren nuclear wasteland.

I'm excited to get more of anything instead of a rushed mess as BSG has often been since Season 3 and especially Season 4.0.
Good news!

Heh, I think it may be best to avoid "biz speak" in this instance and say the premier will run 3 1/2 minutes _longer_. The headline on first look made me think it was some sort of joke about the ep being only 210 seconds.

I lost interest in BSG during the second season as I realized it was becoming a soap opera in outer space. I find the show too melodramatic, too depressing, and too misogynistic. Why is every woman on the show a Cylon, a victim, or a scapegoat? However I am curious how the producers plan on wrapping up the series. I will even make a prediction:
Humans and Cylons will realize that they can repair Earth but only if they work together. The Cylons and some humans will become the ancestors of the monotheistic cultures such as the Israelites while the majority of humans will go on to become the ancestors of polytheistic cultures such as the ancient Greeks. The story of the Battlestar Galactica's journey will become the basis of all human mythology.

Not for me, but for others, perhaps a Spoiler Alert header is in order.

Wow! I'm the 999,999th visitor!
Anyway, I love BSG though it suffers from what all TV sci fi shows, including smallville, suffer from. There seems to be an inescapable desire of TV writers to go into mystical conspiracy theories and prophecies. I think Star Wars did it the best because Aniken's bringing balanceto the force was never prominent. I'm so sick of it now. While the final cylon is a crappy typical subtext of the whole story, the rest of the story is superb.

The final, fifth Cylon is Gaeta. If you've been watching the webisodes "Face of the Enemy" you will see how he "clawed his way back from the darkness" (trapped in a lost raptor with a Cylon killer). It fits the prophecy from early on. His painful howels (remember when he got shot and they had to cut off his leg?). Also, he's never flown a raptor (the toasters know which pilots are Cylons by flashing their eyes) so he's never been outed. Also, one of the several posted Sci-fi clues shows him arguing, I think with Col. Tigh, shouting soumething like "you don't know who I really am!"
That nailed it, he's the fifth and he will be outed. Think of it, our first GAY CYLON! Just think how the glbtq fans will unite, coming together with the het population to build a new Earth........ahhhh....peace at last.

First, to say BSG is a soap opera in outer space is ridiculous. It's a gritty action-packed drama. There are emotions because, yeah, emotions are realistic. But, there are also intense action sequences in every show. I've never heard of intense action sequences in a soap opera.
Secondly, BSG has more strong female characters than any other show I've seen (besides maybe Buffy). To say it's mysoginistic is the height of absurdity. It imagines a culture where women are equal to men in all ways. They play a much larger role in the military than women do in the real world and their felow soldiers treat them as equals. If you want to try and twist everything into sexism, eventually it will lose what meaning it still has. In short, people like you make me sick.
Third, I agree that Gaeta may indeed be the final cylon. It seems to fit with the role each of the other final five members played on New Caprica. They were all central figures in some way during that story arc (except maybe Tory but I don't really even recall what she was doing back then).

This show is misogynisti???
What are you, a nut?
The President is a Woman. The best pilot in the entire fleet is a Woman, and not once is this mentioned during the show because in their society it's normal for women to be on equal footing with men.
