Dark Knight's Heath Ledger wins SAG award, inches closer to Oscar
Heath Ledger won the best supporting actor award Sunday at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the second major posthumous prize he's won for his role as the Joker in last year's The Dark Knight, the Associated Press reported.
The honor raises Ledger's prospects to take home the Oscar on Feb. 22. Ledger, who won a Golden Globe for the role earlier this month, would become just the second performer to win a posthumous Academy Award. The first was Peter Finch, the best-actor recipient for 1976's Network.
Ledger's award was accepted by The Dark Knight co-star Gary Oldman.
The Dark Knight also won SAG's honor for best movie stunt ensemble, while NBC's Heroes took the same prize in the television category.
James Earl Jones, meanwhile, was honored with the guild's lifetime-achievement award for a career that included a role in Dr. Strangelove and performing the voice of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.

Ledger certainly deserves it. I thought it was all hype because he had passed away until I saw Dark Knight for myself. Being a hard core Tim Burton fan it was hard for me to let go of the 1989 film out of loyalty (though I will never pretend to liking Burton's remake of Planet of the Apes. That was his one mistake). But as I watched Dark Knight I realized not only was it brilliantly acted but also brilliantly written. It was the most intelligently written super hero film I had ever seen. And for all it's darkness it's actually very hopeful. The ONLY thing I don't like about Dark Knight is the raspy voice Christian Bale uses as Batman. I felt that was going too far and it pulled me from the story. He should only have deepened his voice slightly.
