Heath Ledger wins Golden Globe for The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger wins Golden Globe for \<i\>The Dark Knight\<\/i\>

As expected, the late Heath Ledger earned the supporting-actor Golden Globe award Sunday night in Beverly Hills, Calif., for his diabolical turn as the Joker in the Batman blockbuster The Dark Knight, the Associated Press reported.

The Globe win boosts Ledger's prospects for the supporting-actor honor at the Oscars, whose nominations come out Jan. 22, the one-year anniversary of the actor's death from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

The award was accepted by Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, who said he and his collaborators were buoyed by the enormous acclaim and acceptance the film and Ledger's performance have gained worldwide, the AP said.

The other winners among SF&F films and TV series included WALL-E, which took home the award for best animated feature. Director Andrew Stanton thanked producer Pixar Animation and distributor Walt Disney, saying the unusual love story between two robots who communicate in beeps and squeaks "couldn't have been made anywhere else."

Anna Paquin, meanwhile, won the Globe for best performance by an actress in a television series, drama, for her starring role in HBO's True Blood.

I'm mixed. Good performance for sure but best of the year? Not sure about that.

Heath Ledger is a great actor. I liked him ever since his first appearance in the TV show "Roar". I thought he was great in "A Knight's Tale" and truly respected him for doing "Brokeback Mountain".

I thought he would do a good job as The Joker when he was cast. When I heard reviews about his spectacular performance I was looking forward to a phenomenal Joker. Instead, I found one that was good, but not great.

Should Hollywood honor Heath Ledger's accomplishments? Absolutely. With a posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor? Absolutely not. The Oscars are for those who are the best of the best within that year. And though I did enjoy his performance, it is not Oscar worthy. The Golden Globe is honors enough for an actor who I will sorely miss.

He's definitely deserving but I dont really understand why he's a supporting actor. U would think the amount of screen time would have made him a co-star and eligible for a best actor nod.
