It's official: Taylor Lautner will be Jacob in New Moon!
Looks like Taylor Lautner dodged a silver bullet: Variety reported late today that he will indeed reprise the role of Native American werewolf Jacob Black in Summit Entertainment's Twilight sequel New Moon.
As we reported earlier, Lautner was holding out hope that rumors of his replacement were false.
Sure enough, Summit and New Moon director Chris Weitz made the announcement Wednesday that Lautner would join returning castmates Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the second installment of the vampire franchise, based on Stephenie Meyer's hit books.
In New Moon, Jacob Black becomes a central figure as Bella Swan (Stewart) is drawn into the world of the werewolves, the ancestral enemies of vampires.
Weitz acknowledged the speculation about whether Lautner could portray the character, who goes through many changes physically, including growing taller and bulkier and aging 10 years. The 16-year-old Lautner has been spending time in the gym, trying to add 19 pounds of muscle. Weitz added that Lautner is "emotionally right for the part," the trade paper reported.
New Moon set to begin production soon for a Nov. 20 release.

First off, I totally got sucked into these books despite the poor writing. Go figure.
Second, I wasn't thrilled with Taylor in Twilight simply because he will always be Sharkboy to me (that was my son's favorite movie for a while). But after reading New Moon I didn't care anymore - I'm all for Jacob, no matter WHO plays him. I have to admit that Taylor has grown on me though ...

taylor lautner is absolutely perfect for New Moon as he was in Twilight. he is also drop dead gorgeous if u hadnt realized alredy. i mean look at him. how cant u love him. I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH HIM!! and the name Jacob.

wow really taylor is still playing jacob black, he deserves the roll especially now whoa have anyone seen his body its to die for. . . .and its really cool that his playing jacob beacause ive been a fan from eversince from summerland, cheaper by the dozen, shark boy and lava girl and most of all twilight

I love Taylor he is a great actor and totally deserves the part of Jacob Black and so what if he was in Shark Boy and Lava Girl (odd but good film btw) that doesn't stop him from being a talented actor. But I can't wait untill he loses the wig its a bit freaky :) TEAM JACOB ALL THE WAY ooh and another thing he looks LUSH with the new muscles :)
