NBC has given a green light to a post-apocalyptic drama pilot titled Day One, from Heroes writer Jesse Alexander, Variety reported.
The hourlong show takes place following a catastrophic global event that destroys the world's infrastructure. The action centers on a small group of survivors.
Universal Media Studios is behind Day One. Alexander's credits include Alias and Lost.

They're remaking Jericho.
By Mandy at 3:01 AM ON 01/28/09
Sorry, but the first word that comes to mind when I see this is Jericho. Perhaps not a remake but it's popping into my mind.
By Rogue3000 at 3:27 AM ON 01/28/09
The post apochalyptic theme has been around for decades. Jericho took the theme and developed it in their own way so did Planet of the Apes, so did Omega Man, and dozens of other movies and television progams. To say this is a remake of Jericho without seeing an episode is like says Farscape was a remake of Star Trek because they both had spaceships, aliens and humans.

The remake comment, I admit was presumptuous. It was just my first thought of comparison. Now you want to talk remake let's compare Moonlight to Forever Knight and Mick the vampire to Nick...

Hey, I've got an idea...let this man do his thing, and then NBC can build a new SciFi network branch called Apocalypse TV! This can be the flag ship series, followed by Jericho, Jeremiah, much of the Twilight Zone & Outer Limits Episodes, and Rosie O'Donnell's Holiday Variety Show!

Actually, that last idea's not a bad one. Things are too good to be true in the White House area for a moment. Everyone's got apocalypse on the brain still. I bet a whole Sci Fi shoot off channel for the End of the World would rock right now.

Thays's pretty much a Rip Off of the 1975 BBC Show that was recently Revamped and Rebooted "Survivors" their was a European Flue that wiped out all but 1% the population and a small band of survivors band togething hoping to make a diference and restart the work along the way the run into many good people gone nuts and crooked politicians also trying to reboot sociaty oh and there is a secret group scientists that unleashed the virus who were not imune and were in seclusion waiting for someone who was effected by the virus and survived so they could extract antibodies for a "cure". Sounds like a big fat rip off
By UnRiel at 9:24 AM ON 01/28/09
I think it's a great idea despite it's resemblance to Jericho. Somewhere between Jericho and Cormac McCarthy's "The Road", or even reflect elements of some of my favorite SciFi like Niven and Pournelle's Footfall and Lucifer's Hammer

Enough already with the post-bomb/asteroid survival group...but if you insist on it...then add some true scifi to it like a subsquent alien invasion or something...not just "survivors" looking for bags of peanuts in the rubble...

strong reactions for a one-sentence description. sounds like it could be good if they do something interesting with the idea, or could not be good if they don't. i'll wait for more than on sentence to figure it out though.

Obviously Jericho in a new form. There was nothing wrong with Jericho in the first place. It should have been allowed to continue instead of being cancelled.

this is so jericho!!! personally i loved jericho and i was sad to see it go. so i'm just wondering how nbc hopes to market this without it failing like jericho. tho cbs is very unreliable if you are not a crime show.

Nuts... I want more Jericho.
By feeling_old at 10:07 PM ON 01/28/09
All of the people saying, "Jericho, this is Jericho, sounds like Jericho" are making me feel old. When "Jericho" came out, my first thought was, "Hey, they're redoing 'The Day After.'"

Check out the web series After Judgment at www.koldcast.tv. sounds like he ripped of this concept

This is nothing like Jericho. From what Ive heard it based on a book about a worldwide financial and the following social collapse - nothing to do with terrorist nukes like Jericho was. Its almost ripped from the headlines - everyone talking about Great Depression 2 and all. I heard rumors about a series being made to air on SCIFI channel based on a book I read by James Wesley called Patriots, Surviving the Collapse. Its a bit dry in parts and slow paced but Im sure they can spice it up for TV. Jericho was ok while it lasted but its over. Time to move on.

I hear Skeet Ulrich and Lenny James are set to star...

I'm a huge fan of post-apocalyptic shows- and this doesn't sound like Jericho- there's no nuclear explosion and it doesn't take place in a small town- at least in the pilot. There's not a lot of post apocalyptic shows on TV right now anyway except for BSG (my fav) and that doesn't take place on earth so there's a market for it -but you can watch After Judgment and Afterworld on the web- they have a bunch of episodes avail and are really cool.

Maybe a "Apocalypse Saturday" once a month woiuld be a good idea!!
By TVTalkRadio at 6:44 PM ON 02/22/09
I for one will watch, regardless of any comparisons to previous series or movies.
By Mandark at 3:52 PM ON 02/28/09
As hackyuoup says, this sounds more like the revamped BBC Survivors than Jericho as it will be based on presumably on a mobile group of people rather than a small town.

im super stoked! theyre filming the show a block away from my house... CRAZY!!!!! i hope it goes through ... i spoke with one of the actresses today and i have no clue who she is, but if the show becomes a success i will have spoken with a famous person...niiiiice! :-D

Or maybe like the book THE YEAR WHEN STARDUST FELL?
By Hurleymonster at 12:29 PM ON 05/29/09
Based upon who is in charge of the series and the fact that he did Lost, Alias and Heroes, I don't think we can expect a straight-forward story about the end of civililzation. Perhaps there's more meaning in "Day One" than we suspect.
