Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book wins Newbery Medal

Neil Gaiman\'s \<i\>The Graveyard Book\<\/i\> wins Newbery Medal

Best-selling author Neil Gaiman's novel The Graveyard Book is the winner of this year's Newbery Medal, the most prestigious award for children's literature in the United States.

Presented by the American Library Association (ALA), the Newbery has been awarded annually since 1922, and is named for 18th century juvenile book publisher John Newbery. Past winners include SF/fantasy authors Madeleine L'Engle, Lloyd Alexander and Lois Lowry.

The ALA has also announced its other annual awards, including the Caldecott Medal, for illustrated children's books, and the Printz Award, for excellence in literature written for young adults. Non-SF novels won both the Caldecott (The House in the Night, illustrated by Beth Krommes and written by Susan Marie Swanson) and Printz (Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta), but several SF/fantasy novels were named Printz Honor Books, denoting works of exceptional achievement: The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, Traitor to the Nation, Volume II: The Kingdom on the Waves by M.T. Anderson, Nation by Terry Pratchett and Tender Morsels by Margo Lanagan.

Winners of the 2009 Alex Award—given to works of adult fiction that also appeal to teen readers—have also been announced. Notable SF winners include The Dragons of Babel by Michael Swanwick, Just After Sunset by Stephen King and Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow.

Full lists of winners in each category are available on the ALA Web site.

Neil Gaiman is a Scientologist. He was a class VIII auditor and Executive Director of the Birmingham Org and a Case Supervisor at the Guardian Office. In 1983 Neil Gaiman may have briefly been declared "suppressive"or maybe not, it could be a big lie because in 1988, FIVE YEARS AFTER THE DECLARE, Neil Gaiman’s name appears in graduate lists in The Auditor Worldwide as completing three Scientology courses. His family members are heavy-weight Scientologists; father David Gaiman was head of the Guardian Office and is active in Russia, sister Claire Edwards is an executive in Scientology Missions International (recruiting end of Scieno), wife Mary Gaiman is listed as "clear" in 2002, Mother Sheila Gaiman is a big time Scientologist with her own site and is also active in Russia. Other sister Lizzie Calcione “runs a Scientology practice in East Grinstead , that is a mixture of auditing and WISE delivery.” The Gaiman Family are listed as founding US "Patrons" of Scientology for 2004 & 2006 so they donate large amounts of money to "clear the planet." According to Celebrity Scientology blog-writer Grahame when asked about Neil’s current scientology status: "My answer is that I heard from a close relative of his that he (Neil Gaiman) is taking services at Flag." (Flag is the Florida headquarters of Scientology.) Neil Gaiman’s family makes millions of dollars a year selling vitamins to poor ignorant Scientologists who sit in saunas roasting to cure themselves.
