In Fox's Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, we last saw Riley (Leven Rambin)—the supposed ordinary girl who befriends John Connor (Thomas Dekker)—lying unconscious on a bathroom floor, having apparently slit her own wrists. This after it was revealed that Riley was really—gasp!—a girl from the future, sent by Jesse (Stephanie Jacobsen) to spy on John.
So is she dead? Does she come back? (Spoilers ahead!)
Rambin told SCI FI Wire that she's not as dead as she appeared and added that upcoming episodes will reveal her secret to John. Rambin knows how John will react when he finds out.
But she won't tell us.
"You can speculate all you want," Rambin said in an interview earlier this month in Hollywood. "I know. Everybody's playing everybody, so that's all I can say, really."
The remaining nine episodes of season two also feature Riley's first big action scene. "I have a big action scene that's my big spotlight, my own action scene," she said. "It was like, 'When am I going to get my own fight?' And I got it in a big way, big way."
As for Riley's actual mission, Rambin said viewers already have as much information as they're planning to reveal this season. She reports back to Jesse, but Jesse just gives her vague orders that only Riley would understand.

"It's about as clear as it gets. That's about as much as they're going to lay it out for everybody, that she's just there to drive a wedge between Cameron [Summer Glau] and John, because they believe that if he gets too close to the robot that in the future he will befriend robots or not want to fight them or whatever. Some of her interaction with John is her doing what she thinks Jesse wants, and some of them are her actually falling in love with John. So it's just always a struggle for her to kind of do it, but sometimes she cracks and just can't do it."
When Rambin first joined the series, she told the press that Riley was just a normal girl entering John Connor's world. It turns out that Rambin knew all along.
"Yeah, that was a lie," Rambin admits now. "That's what I was told to say, and that's what it seemed like at first."
Who would have wanted to play a normal girl on Terminator anyway? "I knew that that would never happen anyway, so that's not what I was ever expecting. But I have to admit that I was not prepared for all the things that they had in store for me, even some of the stuff that I've done recently. I can't believe I have this role right now. It's a lot more fun than just being some bimbo on some high school 90210 [type show] or something. No offense to them, but I'm just saying. Do they get to kick butt every day? No." Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles returns Feb. 13 and will air in a new timeslot, Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

I knew Riley wouldn't succeed in her suicide attempt, but I so hoped she would. Leven Rambin and Stephanie Jacobsen are killing me! They are two of the most annoying actresses I've ever seen. Rambin does these odd, distracting, almost gross things with her jaw and brow, like she keeps wondering what that awful taste is in her mouth.
And Jacobsen tries way, way, way too hard to convey sexy, tough action woman. Someone should tell her to stop trying to act with her lips and digitally remove the perma-crease between her eyes.
(If you really want to talk annoying, though, a mob should storm the casting director's office and demand to know why they cast Busy Phillips. I can handle seeing all sorts of onscreen gore, but her humungo self makes me have to look away. Heck, I could barely stand to look at her when she was on Freaks & Geeks.)
With all that ranting said, I continue to be a big Lena Headey fan, which I've been for years, and I'm really impressed with Brian Austin Green. Overall, I really liked the first season of Terminator, but I agree with the "love letter" Sci Fi Wire wrote to the show several weeks ago. The show needs a pulse! It feels like nothing ever happens to drive the main story forward, and there are numerous individual episodes where, as interesting as it is to watch the central cast, I'm left thinking, "So what did all of that amount to?"
Of course, let's be honest, the show would have to get pretty bad before I stopped tuning in to see Summer Glau. As far as I'm concerned, the show could be all about her character; forget whiny, brooding, emo John Conner. The way the show is handling his character (as opposed to the more successful treatment in the movies), I'm having a hard time caring how he got to be the great leader he'll one day be.

I am less forgiving than Angry John. I have rolled with annoying continuity issues, inexplicable and inconsistent behavior from the lead characters, bad 2nd season casting and the apparent ease of time travel now.
But, if as spoilers suggest, an adult Kyle Reese is introduced, I am done! This show will have crossed the border into the realm of bad fan-fic as far as I am concerned.

^ Don't worry too much about the whole "Kyle" thing. He's not coming back. It's another one of Sarah's crazy dreams.

The writers did very well to create a character that fans would love to hate. After Riley's facing off with Cromartie I found her very brave and started to admire her. I can see in her acting that she is flattered to be with the most influential and powerful man in her (future) world. She is falling in love and obviously hoping to be his future honey.
He role became clear when the episodic revelation put her with Jesse.
My wife pegged her as from the future in the first couple episodes. She asked John about the future, her Lego robot toy, Cat Fancy reference, 15 minutes and world may be destroyed and foreign expressions like "Full of apples and carrots".

There is nothing wrong with either Rambin or Stephanie's acting...you idiots have never acted and do not know what the director is telling them to do.

Honestly at the beginning I liked Riley.
Always thought that John's attraction to her was because in some ways she reminded him of Cameron. She introduced herself to him - same as Cameron. Some of the "cliche" comments she said were incorrect - like Cameron because neither of them got the popular sayings of the time right - even though Cameron did eventually get "that's tight" down.
She was a mystery much like Cameron and I was okay with her...until I found out she was working with Jesse to bring a wedge between John and Cameron... I can't stand those kind of characters. As far as I'm concerned both she and Jesse can be terminated.
I'd prefer to see more of the KW, John Henry, Ellison story arc anyway and the Jesse/Riley story line is sucking up the air time. And can we get a little more revelation on Cameron while we are at it.

I think no matter who was cast as Riley, the character would still have been hated by fans. I've seen this sort of reaction in so many fandoms, refusing to give a new character a chance simply because s/he stands in the way of their favorite couple getting together, even to the point of attacking the actor/actress. For what it's worth, I think Leven Rambin is doing well with the material she's been given and I doubt another actress would have made the character more acceptable to fans. Riley was doomed as a character as soon as they announced she was going to be a love interest for John.
Stepanie does need to improve her performance though. I agree with the poster who said she's trying a little too hard to be bad-ass. I'm not sure why she's struggling in this role, she did a good job in a fairly similar role on BSG.

I have to disagree with Kat. I think Riley is a very compelling character, first as the confidante for fellow misfit John she started out as and especially the young, feral girl plucked from the future and given this impossible task. Then there are her feelings for Jessie, which are returned with violence. The character finds herself in an unimaginable situation and she has all my sympathy. She SHOULD be very endearing, and another, better actress could make her so, but because of Rambin's weird facial ticks and other irritating habits (like not knowing what to do with a jaw that's too large for her face), I end up not really caring at all what happens to Riley.
Also, did you mean Riley is standing in the way of John and Cameron? Um, I don't think we're supposed to be rooting for John and Cameron to end up together, are we? That's sort of sick. She's a robot and to the outside world, they portray brother and sister. Actually, it makes me wonder if there's a side of future John Connor who might be quite warped in the head, what with all of his oedipal and little sex-robot issues. Wow, yeah, it makes so much sense now! He may be a terrific military leader, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have serious bedroom issues.

I loathe Riley because 1) the actress is quite simply - bad; 2) her presence makes John into a whiny, emo nitwit who I would prefer get killed by Cromartie and Co so that Sarah and Cameron can save the world.
I loathe any female character that has every other character acting wildly out of character for her benefit. And just once, I'd like a show that didn't waste my time on the overdone, cliched, boring "I want to be normal" schtick. I was so pleased when I thought this show was bypassing all that nonsense, when John stepped up and was becoming the man we know he does in the future. Alas, it was for naught. He need a blonde chick to make him him feel normal because losing his father to the terminators, hearing his mother tell him her story with Kyle's, having his uncle come back from the future and tell him all the hardships they face there and even being targeted to be killed - what do they all do? They make John want to stick his head in the sand and pretend to be normal with Riley. Gawd, is it any wonder this show is just dying? What a waste.
