Warner rebooting Tomb Raider: Will Angelina be Lara Croft?

Warner rebooting \<i\>Tomb Raider\<\/i\>: Will Angelina be Lara Croft?

Warners Brothers and producer Dan Lin are in early development on a reboot of Tomb Raider, a movie based on the popular video-game action franchise featuring Lara Croft, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new project is expected to revamp the character and her mission and bear little resemblance to the two Paramount movies also based on the game, 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which featured Angelina Jolie in the title role.

The new film will reimagine the origins of the character, her love interest and the main villain, the trade paper reported.

As an open-writing assignment, the project is still in its nascent stages. An actress who could play the role Jolie made famous would likely come on after a writer and director are attached. (Rumors that Transformers star Megan Fox would put on the shorts and boots were shot down by her representatives.)

Rights to the game reverted to game publisher Eidos. When Time Warner upped its stake to 19.92 percent in Eidos in December, film rights to the property were included as part of the deal. A 10th-anniversary edition of Tomb Raider was released in 2006.

Lin will produce the project via his Lin Pictures banner, while Stephen Gilchrist will co-produce; Ian Livingstone of Eidos will executive-produce.

Re-Imagine is moron for "Let's co-opt this name, make some really stupid movie, collect a bazillion dollars before the general public realizes how bad it is, then fly to Rio and retire."

I swear... Can't Hollywood come up with something original rather than trashing an existing franchise by "Re-Imagining" it...?

If they're set on it, cast Rhona Mitra at Lara. She kicked butt in Doomsday, and Underworld: ROTL. Jolie need not reapply. She's gotten too skinny.

Why screw it up AGAIN by using Jolie? This is a good opportunity to do it RIGHT. Leave her out of it and it might be successful. Put her in AGAIN and you'll end up taking another huge, ugly dump AGAIN. Use someone worthy of the character in all her glory. Tomb Raider/Lara Croft deserves a lot better. The Batman franchise realized their early mistake and relaunched the franchise, as they also did with Superman. They threw out the trash and did it right. They can do the same with Tomb Raider and I hope they do.

I'm just in awwe about remaking a film less than ten years old. Hulk, I understand. That was a special situation but I am not so sure about this.

Blast, the 1989 Batman movie and Batman Returns weren't exactly failures. They were huge successes. It's only when they de-evolved into ice puns and bat nipples (you know which one I'm talking about) that a reboot was needed.

Rhona Mitra would definitely be a good choice for Lara.

Love interest?!?!! NO WAY. Lara does not have a love interest. No way, no how. At best she can have someone she used to maybe possibly date, but she ain't got no boyfriends. The whole idea of revamping her character is just a bad idea. They're gonna lose the fan base if they make her too different. The first movies sucked, and Angelina sucked as Lara. If they tried to make it closer to the games, looking particularly at the last 3 games by Crystal Dynamics and keep Toby Gard, the creator of Lara, on hand then it might turn out pretty good. But no Toby, no thanks.

i concur abt Rhona Mitra, she would kick butt. i think if they are looking for someone more bankable that would smart. not only that but she is definitely shaped for the role and going with megan fox would be a waste.

Rhona Mitra was one of the first tomb raider models... she's already been Lara, but that doesn't mean she can't be again... i'd support that!!

Don´t Bother with Megan Fox, she is only a pretty face so why no choosing Jessica Biel, she´s pretty and athletic and she looks like lara. Rhona Mitra could be a good choice tho.
