Watchmen hearing canceled; is settlement imminent?

\<i\>Watchmen\<\/i\> hearing canceled; is settlement imminent?

A scheduled Tuesday court conference between Fox and Warner Brothers attorneys has been canceled, fueling talk that a settlement in the contentious Watchmen case is imminent, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fox sued Warners last February, saying the Burbank-based studio infringed on its rights to make the comic-book adaptation. In December, when federal judge Gary A. Feess ruled that Fox has distribution rights to the film, Warners faced the prospect of having the film's March 6 release blocked.

Settlement talks between the two sides became serious over the weekend and continued to heat up yesterday.

A settlement could cost Warners tens of millions of dollars. A case involving copyright ownership of Warners' The Dukes of Hazzard, which Feess blocked from release in 2005, ended in a settlement worth a reported $17.5 million.

After all the trouble WB has gone through getting this film released let's hope it doesn't turn into a huge flop. While everyone likes to talk about what a creative genius Alan Moore is, none of the films based on his graphic novels have been successful. Of course, that's more to do with the films than Moore's work, but still.

Actually, Jimmy, both From Hell and V for Vendetta are considered successful. Both received some critical acclaim and turned a substantial profit. Constantine was also financially successful if not critically so. Not blockbusters by any means, but certainly not unsuccessful as you're claiming. And when you consider that both the Nolan Batman films are based in part on Moore's The Dark Knight Returns...well, don't judge all adaptations by the mess that was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think you are confusing Moore's total dissatisfaction with Hollywood (and its attendant scandal) with lack of financial success.

Um, balkaster, that would be Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. Moore is only really known (Batman-wise) for The Killing Joke.

I don't see why everytime anything with Moore is brought uo people have to mention how 'crappy' V for Vendetta and LXG were. They were two of my personal favorite movies among many others, but I thought they were both excellent.

I liked V the movie better than V the graphic novel, which I never made it through. But, those were totally different people making it anyway, so Watchmen could either be great or horrible. I like a lot of Zach's work, so hope the trend continues.
