Dakota Fanning, who confirmed that she's in talks about playing a vampire in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon, told reporters that she's eager to tackle a role so at odds with her previous parts: i.e., someone evil.
"I hope that it does work out," Fanning said in a group interview on Friday in Los Angeles, where she was promoting Coraline. "It's not 100 percent for sure. I can't say it's for sure yet. It would be really cool if it does work out. I'm a big fan."
Fanning would play the role of Jane, one of the aristocratic Volturi vampires from Italy, who has a twin brother named Alec. "I think it would be really cool to be something different than I've ever been before," she said. "I mean, a vampire, it's really neat. The character I would be playing is kind of evil and mean, so it would be a fun opportunity."
The contracts aren't inked just yet, but Fanning again confirmed that they are continuing to talk about the project.
For now, Fanning is reading the books and getting to know her character. She laughs when asks whether she's practicing her vampire faces in front of mirror yet. "I haven't read all of them yet, but I'm getting there," she said. "It's such a cool series, and I'm a big fan of the cast. It would be really cool to be a part of." New Moon is slated to begin filming in the next few weeks for a Nov. 20 release.

Oh, when will this Twilight stuff fall out of fashion?
The following is my opinion. You don't have to agree with it. It's just how I feel on the matter.
There are so many better young adult romances about the new girl and her reluctant vampire boyfriend. This wasn't the first. And it's not well written. It lacks substance. And let's not forget all the cliches.
Better stories about reluctant vampires and their lovers are Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Dark Shadows, and of course The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
Young adult novels never used to be so poorly written. Way back when there was The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde has a fifteen-year-old girl as the hero. Frankenstein was written by a teenager. There are so many better young adult stories of this nature, ones with substance and meaning.
Twilight might be getting kids to read but I'd feel better if they read something of higher quality that doesn't promote emotionally and physically abusive relationships.

I so agree with you Mandy, ill say Twillight was good but compare it to the book and WoW what a mess!
Oh and vampires dont glitter when they are in the sun, they, well what was it, oh yh they blast into flames!! everyone knows that so why go on about changing it?
I love Buffy has so much more quality then twilight.
I just finished whatching Let The Right One In and that just jumped to the top of my vampire movie list! its so much better and no one evens knows about it, they all go on about Twilight...

Admittedly this isn't the first time vampires can go into the sun. The original Dracula and the vampires of Whitley Strieber can go into the sun. But sparkle... (Shudder).
A much better quality of vampire novel where the vampires don't sparkle is Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles.

It would be wise to consider that "Dark Shadows" and "The Vampire Chronicles" hardly count as young adult novels. Frankly, I was delighted to see that there was a young adult vampire story that broke the trend of the "modern goth emo" variety. As for sparkling vampires, ever author approaches the vampire mythos their own way, takes what they like and alters the rest. "Twilight" is meant to be fun and fluffy, if you don't like your vampires that way, maybe you should stick with Anne Rice.

The Vampire Chronicles were hardly geared toward younger readers. Who do you think an eternally twenty-year-old rock star would appeal to? Honestly?
And Dark Shadows fan base (at the time) was mostly teenage girls.
Fun and fluffy? There's nothing more emo than this fun fluffy. Twilight personifies the nonsense of emo trend.

My point exactly on "The Vampire Chronicles," they weren't geared towards young adults so I don't see how they make a legitimate comparison. However, if you have personally read a modern young adult book about a reluctant vampire and his lover (that is not based off of a TV series) that you feel is a better read, please feel free to mention the author and title. I'd be curious to know what it is.

Twilight is the best thing that ever happened to the universe besides the Messiah. So there.

Stephen King agrees with Mandy about the writing....have not read Twilight, etc; Miss the late writers like Saberhagen & his take on "new Dracula" stories. "An Old Friend Of The Family" has been planned a few times, but as far as I know, currently not in the works.

Why do people keep saying that Twilight is for girls? It just scares other people off. I know loads of guys who love it.
