Will a fourth Resident Evil rise?

Will a fourth \<i\>Resident Evil\<\/i\> rise?

Arrow in the Head reports that Resident Evil producer Paul Anderson has written a script for a fourth installment of the video-game-inspired zombie movie franchise, which will move the action to Tokyo and Alaska.

Citing an anonymous source, the site adds that Anderson will not direct the as-yet-untitled film, which it says will be more akin to Resident Evil 2 in terms of style, but with better dialogue. The overall tone is also very dark.

Patrick Tatopoulos (director of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) will reportedly be in charge of the creature effects, and Michael Lantieri (Jurassic Park 3) will handle the special effects.

Filming will take place in Tokyo and Toronto, which will double for Alaska.

Is it at this point still a Resident Evil movie? The movies are taking place in their own dimension with little reference to what happens in the games. They have supplanted the video game's universe totally. They are their own franchise.

Even the first movie was just slapping the Resident Evil brand on some zombie movie script lying around. While the game was about one person trying to escape, the movie was very aggressively about a group of people going it. To nobody's surprise they started dying soon after. I am sure the producers can still make a profit with another few straight-to-dvd movies, but is there really a fan of the game who really cares about those movies in terms of being Resident Evil? I for my part would be just as entertained with any other Jovovich action flick.

I would love another RE movie - as long as it is not a train wreck like the third installment. Worst sequel ever (in the voice of comic book guy).

By budgethero at 10:00 AM ON 01/30/09

i beg for a RE movie! i beg! i beg!

i thought the third movie was kick butt, as usual.

please understand, i am sincere when i say this. im sorry the RE movies aren't like the RE games. i know how that feels. ....but... i love these movies. please dont judge me

Man I so hope they make another. I watch all these movies over and over. I watched the 3rd one this weekend twice!

Adding a fourth would be great! I hope they have the determination to make another sequence of 3.

I liked the third movie actually and thought the second one was a lot of fun. the original was a pile of crap though. I wouldn't mind another one, with a little better plot and acting.

By MainiAckles at 12:13 PM ON 01/30/09

Will Jensen Ackles be involved?

By sal at 12:27 PM ON 01/30/09

What do you mean the original was a pile of crap. It was the one closest to the feel and story of the original game. The others were radom action movies. I did enjoy the second but the third was weak.

I thought the second movie was terrible and just the wrong kind of movie to make. Spinning off an original plotline from the games is something I'm fine with -- I thought the first movie was an excellent survival horror film and a reasonable prequel to the videogames. However, the second was just a badge action film with zombies. I thought the third was an excellent return to the roots of the story. If the fourth is like the second... I will pass on it. But I'd like to see something that stays with the momentum of the 3rd.

These movies are worse than the zombies in it. No matter how many times this franchise is killed by a crappy sequel, it rises again from the grave for yet another crappy sequel.

By Justo at 3:57 PM ON 01/30/09

Uh, no thanks. The first was Okay. Very mediocre. 2 was like the worst thing ever. 3 was almost as bad, but certainly not worth seeing. They've gotten so far off the track of the games that I don't really care anymore. At least they're not butching the canon any longer. They might as well title it something else now. Umbrella is the only connection left and it's got little resemblance to the Umbrella of the games.

While it's true that the RE movies are not really true to the game, in their own genre they're pretty darn good. I look forward to a fourth movie (haven't yet seen the animated one that recently came out on DVD yet though).

Fanbois unite! gah... Please, PLEASE stop beating the dead horse already. Yes, they're not the same! Surprise! You'd think by the 3rd one people would have realised this. sigh. For movies in general, the RE movies are decent, if not quite fun. As zombie movies, they kick serious butt. They feature overall good storytelling of an apocalyptic future and I feel the story moving to Tokyo to take down some of the remaining exec.s from Umbrella will be great.

As for the computer animated one mentioned--that one is based on the games and has nothing to do with Alice. It's a pretty good film.

Please stop making these Resident Evil movies, as a hardcore fan of the games, these movies disgust me, please start over on a new series with more reference to the game.

By levo at 4:58 PM ON 02/16/09

please start over! These movies ARE NOT resident evil, didnt capture what it was meant to be. Horror, dark, slow-paced and gruesome. Not an action-packed badly scripted pile of crap. Start again where was the friggin mansion??? Follow the friggin game it played out like a movie in itself (the original) just aviod the bad acting and polish it alot more. Duh!

By zombiedave at 1:53 PM ON 03/06/09

True the RE-movies are not quiet in the same universe as the games, but never the less they are good. To be honnest: most movies based on a book or a commic or game are not the same as the book/commic/game, think about LOTR, FF, X-men, superman, all based on books or commics and none of the movies is really the same as the book or commic.

I seen a lot of zombie- and horror movies and the RE movies are real good. So I am certainly up for a new one!

I am looking forward to the fouth sequel. im just worried that theyre going to screw up the whole title resident evil. The third was disappointing to me. they should have shown how she got to where she was, how she entered the labs and locked into the system and they should have had more details. I really hope the whole clone thing doesnt go in the wrong direction like all movies do.

By Mark69 at 8:34 PM ON 04/12/09

I wasn't expecting to like the first Res movie. I'm a HUGE Resident Evil fan and I thought it was going to be one of those over flashy, slow motion shooty movies. Which it was, but I ended up enjoying it anyway. The second movie was pure gold. There aren't words to describe how much I loved it. 10/10. The third movie bored me to tears. If there is going to be a fourth, they should go back to the game story-lines.
