Platinum Dunes producerse Brad Fuller and Andrew Form told SCI FI Wire that they're close to hiring a "very high-level writer" to begin drafting a script for a Ouija-themed movie, tied to the Parker Brothers' "spirit board" game.
"I don't think we've closed the deal, so I can't say, but we've got a very high-level writer to write that, and we start writing it, I think, within the month," Fuller said in an interview over the weekend in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he and Form were promoting Friday the 13th.
Fuller added that the movie will be "a huge movie. That's a big, big, big thing. ... It's more of a, like, Pirates of the Caribbean adventure story, with a Ouija board at the center of it."
The movie is being developed at Universal as part of Platinum Dunes partner Michael Bay's relationship with Hasbro (Transformers), which owns Parker Brothers. Fuller added that the movie will NOT resemble Jumanji, another game-themed movie.

This has been done, in the late 80s.
But then again, what wasn't done in the 80s.

Yeah, this has already been done. 1986's Witchboard was followed by Witchboard II: the Devil's Doorway and Witchboard III: the Possession. There's a whole generation of filmmakers in Hollywood with no frame of reference outside the movies and TV shows they grew up with. These guys need to go visit a library to get some ideas that haven't been seen before.
