Director Alex Proyas told SCI FI Wire that it's "possible" that his upcoming Dracula Year Zero movie could be his next film.
"We're still trying to resolve budget and casting and all the stuff that you need to get through before a project becomes real," Proyas (Knowing) said in an exclusive interview on Monday. "But the script is at a very good place and I think has a very unique take on the Dracula story."
The movie will reboot the vampire legend, based in part on Bram Stoker's original novel, but with an original take on the well-worn material.
"We have that," Proyas said. "That's what brought me into the concept. Dracula is obviously a character that has been [around]. There've been so many movies made about him. And this story came along, and I went, 'Wow, that is such a ... , it's almost like a no-brainer in terms of what this story is.' And you kind of go, 'Well, why hasn't someone actually told this story already?' Because it is truly the origin story of the character. And [we have] a really great script that works beautifully. So that part is in place. We just have to get all the logistical aspects out of the way now."

No one's told the Dracula back story!? Really?!
Dracula 2000 (Which I hated) claimed he was Judas.
Bram Stoker's Dracula had him a grieving husband who turned against God when his wife killed herself.
Dracula: Prince of Darkness gave the Vlad the impailer backstory and ended it with him becoming Dracula the vampire.
Clearly he knows little about the other Dracula films of recent years...

Also Bram Stoker's Dracula is technically a remake. There was a made for TV version in the seventies called Bram Stoker's Dracula with the same reincarnated lost lover plot device (originated on the show Dark Shadows) made by Dan Curtis (creator of Dark Shadows). The 1992 version doesn't give him any credit but that plot device was his idea, first used on Dark Shadows and then a made for TV version of Bram Stoker's Dracula.
But my point stands. There HAVE been films

the idea behind REBOOT is that he can go back to the very first incarnation of Dracula's story and take it in a new direction, i just hope that if it is made then it will be a dark fillm not a reboot with laughter like Friday the 13th.
this could be a great movie if its done right.

The Dark Prince movie that was made for t.v. sucked. However, the idea behind it was great. The best dracula movie to date is Bram Stokers Dracula with oldman. I know that Proyas brought the crow to life perfectly. And with this script that he has I think he could make the best dracula to date
