"Man After Fire?"

The thing about most of these post-apocalyptic films that never makes sense is that they always have gas powered vehicles that the characters use to cross great distances. There's never any explanation as to where they get the fuel.

And food, where do they get their food in the dustbowl landscape where no plant life grows?

By Anachronite at 7:47 PM ON 02/27/09

easy, gas can come from underground fuel tanks left over, or can be made in a still like corn whiskey. that'll make it run fast as well. lol.

food comes from the same place cavemen got it, they hunted and gathered.

guess you won;t be one of the survivors if you can;t figure out those easy things. LOL

Actually, Anachronite, his questions were quite logical. You can't hunt "like a caveman" in a post-apocalyptic world, because you remember that "apocalyptic" part of the world? In almost every scenario, it would destroy the world's eco-systems, poison the animals, making them extremely rare, and possibly even making those that lived, deadly to eat.

As for the gas, when an apocalypse happens, people don't like to stick around in the area they've been in, most of the gas would have been looted in the early days, and it would have been wasted as those people died, and it became fuel for destruction, and evaporated as the cars materials begin to breakdown, and degrade.

If the soil is destroyed, you can't have plants, you can't grow corn, you can't grow food, and if you could, it would be so limited you wouldn't waste it so you could travel.

I agree with Anachronite, its a movie about one lone man who carries the only book in allllllll of the world that holds the one and only secret to saving mankind. Just one book, just one man, not many books, not even a dvd, just one book. One man, no no not an entire group of people because you only have a group of people when zombies are involved no in a movie like this we go mad max style, a lone man, who doesnt like anyone or need anyone until half way across the movie. Yea lets worry about the gas and the food, lets go into details on how everythng should be in a post apocalyptic world, ok lets roaches make for good eating, and gas can be produced found in cow crap, there problem solved with both realistic answers and yet still keeping that movie magic.

You guys, come on, didn't you hear? Soylent Green is people!!!

axtually Baystreet, you missed the part where you can make a still if there is no gas. Moonshiners ran cars on alcohol for years. its an awesome fuel. thats pretty much what corn based ethonol you buy at the gas pumps is, just cleaner and more refined. so gas would be easy.

back to the food, if theres people alive, theres animals alive. and if not, well it is the apocolypse. when someone tries to jack you, just be faster and snuff him out. Then toss the sucker on the ol'barby and voila! roasted road raider!

and if your hungry, I doubt you will care much if the animal or person your cooking for dinner is unclean. it's the only food round, so eat or die sooner that you would if you eat food.

One man, one book probably because one man one DVD would also require a DVD player, thus electricity to power the player. Hope the book is not too fine prints, or else it would require reading glasses, not easy to find in post apocalyptic neighborhoods.
