Jason will be back, perhaps as early as the second half of 2010, sources revealed to the Risky Biz blog. New Line and Platinum Dunes are reportedly moving ahead on a new Friday the 13th flick, while screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who were responsible for the recently released reboot, are getting to work on a script for a new picture.

While Jason Voorhees is slated to return as the villain, in the strictest sense any new Friday would not likely be a sequel so much as a follow-up that would make use of elements from the original franchise. The reasoning for this is that the recent reboot, which earned $70 million worldwide, already drew on plot points from the first four pictures in the Friday series, and producers are said to be less than enthusiastic about the remaining elements from the half-dozen less-than-stellar films that followed.

No talent has yet been signed for the project, and the return of those who were involved in the latest movie is problematic, considering that director Marcus Nispel is believed to be reviewing offers for other movies already, and surviving stars Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) and Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist) are both busy on their respective hit TV series.

Still, after the surprise success of this month's installment, that's unlikely to keep everyone's favorite machete-wielding mass murderer from returning to the silver screen.
