\<i\>Lost\<\/i\> reverses the season\'s ratings slide ... for now

ABC's Lost saw its ratings rebound with the airing of the Feb. 18 episode, "316," according to The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed.

With 11.3 million viewers, Lost reversed its season-long ratings slide and shot up to surpass its January season premiere, setting a new high for the year, the site reported. The ratings were the best since last April.

Lost was the evening's highest-rated scripted series, with Fox's American Idol (24.4 million viewers) winning the night.

The first half of the recent episode was a bit dull, but as usual they threw in some cool twists toward the end. The pilot having an appearance was cool, but much more significant was Jack and the others little trip through time.

IS ANYONE SUPRISED THAT A SHOW THAT WAS INTENDED TO SCREW WITH VEIWERS MINDS IN AN IRRITATING MANNER IS LOOSING IT'S RATINGS>

I don't want to complain about this site, since so many others are really good at that. I like what you cover and generally like your editorial perspective. But sometimes the negativity is a bit much. "... For Now." What does that mean?

The ratings talk on the web lately has been overly positive or really, really negative. You'd think no one watched TV at all anymore and every show was on the verge of cancelation. I think that kind of press has upped ratings on shows in the past, people want to save their favorite shows, but now everyone is immune to "the sky is falling' coverage because every show is portrayed that way, whether or not they actually are on the chopping block. 'Lie to Me' had essentially the same ratings as 'Lost' and I haven't seen that written as a positive thing anywhere, even though both are up against the zombie-Idol. Perception is everything, especially if you are selling advertising. Shame the money thrown around doesn't reflect the quality, or lack thereof, of the program you are advertising during, damn shame.

As it has been stacked up against American Idol for the past 2 or 3 weeks, in my area, I'm sure many people like myself either DVD'd it or watched the episodes online. Now that Idol is on before Lost, we again are able to watch both, sending Lost's ratings soaring, I hope!!

I don't think the ratings are being measured accurately for any show any more. They don't seem to count how many people stream content online the next day. Also how many people DVR it and watch later? The networks programming schedule means very little in this day and age yet they seem to base a shows popularity only off ratings of the networks time slotted audience. Why? too many shows get the axe over such short sightedness I wish they would go the product placement route like the Sopranos used to. Then they would not be such slaves to the ad revenue and no commercials rocks. Like Bill Hicks used to say "if your in advertising kill yourself because you are satan's minions" Stop putting a price tag on everything

The only purpose of a TV show is to entice people to watch commercials. Anyone who views a show with a DVR is going to skip the commercials, so none of the networks will care how many people watch a show that way. And the streaming of a show over the internet isn't targeting the viewers advertisers care about, so *those* viewers are unimportant as well.

It's about the money, and always has been.

Once again Sci-Fi Wire got it wrong. Lost was NOT the evening's highest-rated scripted series of the night. Both Criminal Minds and Lie To Me had higher ratings. Just because Lost is a Sci-Fi show, does not mean Sci-Fi Wire lie to it's readers.

By SCI FI Wire at 12:59 PM ON 02/20/09

@justin: This is from Live Feed:

"Lie" was the second-highest-rated scripted show of the evening.

CBS placed third with "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (7.3 million, 2.0/6) and "Gary Unmarried" (7.3 million, 2.1/5) on par, followed by "Criminal Minds" (15 million, 3.7/9) and an hour-winning "CSI: NY" (12.4 million, 3.0/8). NBC "Knight Rider" (5.5 million, 1.5/4) and "Life" (5.2 million, 1.5/4) were both up slightly this week, with "Law & Order" (7.2 million, 2.1/6) on par. The CW aired repeats.

I want to thank Sci-Fi Wire for making it clear... Criminal Minds was the highest rated scripted show followed show for the night. The point I was trying to make was that Lost continues to come in 3rd in it's time slot, behind both Criminal Minds and Lie to Me. I hope in the future Sci-Fi Wire tells the truth and not what it wants to beLIEve.
