Seth Green has been chosen to star in the Walt Disney Pictures film adaptation of the Berkeley Breathed children's novel Mars Needs Moms, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Green will be playing Milo, a boy who stows away on a spaceship to rescue his mother after she is kidnapped by aliens. Joan Cusack (Confessions of a Shopaholic) will portray Milo's mom, while Green's on-screen mother from Austin Powers, Mindy Sterling, will play the alien leader of Mars.
Mars Needs Moms, produced by Disney and Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers, will be directed by Simon Wells (The Time Machine) as a performance-capture movie, which, according to Green, is akin to "performing in a black box theater with no costumes, no sets, just actors looking into each other's eyes trying to make it real."

I LOVE Seth Green but playing "a boy who stows away" is kind of a stretch. The man may be small but he's 35! Does performance capture turn the actors into cartoons or something?

Indeed it does and the results can be seen from Tom Hanks in The Polar Express to Angelina Jolie in Beowulf. It can be good or not so good.

Moxie, performance capture is a type of animation that captures facial expressions and body movements but otherwise is animated. It's a type of computer animation. Polar Express was a motion capture movie. So pretty much it's a boy being voiced by Seth Green and resembling him a bit in his body langauge and facial movements. I don't know why this wasn't covered in the article, it's a fairly new process. Not everyone knows how it works yet.

Thanks Captain Q and Mandy. Yikes, I saw Polar Express and thought the movie was more creepy than cute. I hope they make Mars Needs Moms a bit less realistic looking so the images don't look so... dead eyed.
