Samuel L. Jackson signs 9-pic Marvel deal to reprise Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson signs 9-pic Marvel deal to reprise Nick Fury

Good news, motherf--kers! Samuel L. Jackson will put Nick Fury's eyepatch back on after all.

The actor—who only a few weeks ago was saying he might quit—has signed an unprecedented nine-picture deal to play the character in a series of Marvel movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson first appeared as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a cameo at the end of Iron Man. Under his new deal, he'll reprise the iconic character in Marvel's upcoming Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, The Avengers and any other sequels. Also on the table is the possibility of starring in a separate S.H.I.E.L.D. movie, which is in development.

WOW. Simply WOW. You gotta give Sam one thing, he's one heck of a businessman. That or his agents are. :P

Soooooo....what about the Howling Commandos? Were they in the Gulf War now? Or Iraq...or Afganinstan? ;^)

By Bluesman at 7:51 PM ON 02/25/09

And the Hoff gets shot down again! :D

I think this is good news for both the Marvel franchises and Jackson. Hopefully he will stop chewing the scenery like he has in some of his more recent mediocre efforts. I expect Fury to be a little over the top.

Good job Mace nine picture deal. As far as I know Nick Fury was a super soldier in Ultimate Marvels so he either ages slower or doesn't age a t all. So the Howling Commandoes and Capt. America are still WW II. But good point I mean Prof. X and Magneto are like what a 100 now. Xavier fought in Korea and Magneto met his wife in the WW II death camps.. even though Singer retconned it in the movie that he was a kid then.

Come on. Surely your writers can be creative enough to to express their joy in a manner besides eliminating one letter out of an unexceptable word. My 13-year-old visits this site everyday.

Hopefully his performance will nuanced like Pulp Fiction. Not eye-scoldingly over-the-top like the Spirit.

ACES!

oh and @Cain: Actually they elimated 2 letters :p

This is terrible news! At least I think so.

Cain, So how many letters would be acceptable? That is kinda Sam Jack's trademark. BTW, it was 2 letters!! :)

personally, I think he'll be in the period Captain America movie...you saw his scars for the iron man movie... three slashes, like claw marks...Cap, Logan and nick Fury in WWII. happened in ultimates and main continuity

If this site stopped with the attitude there would be no debate over langauage here. Stop trying to be snarky and hip (and failing at both) and go back to the way it used to be.

The Howling Commando's were WWII.

SGT Fury and his Howling Commandos were a comic book that ended in the early 70's.

AWESOME

You have to applaud Marvel. A lot has changed since the 70s, but they are really doing a fantastic job of retaining much of the continuity. Yes, some of the time frames and character cosmetics have changed, but so have the last 40 years.

I thought the Hoff played a good Fury, but his kind of Fury just wouldn't jive with the current Marvel characters. If the conitnuity of Fury and his relationship with all of the other characters stays intact, then I say go for it.

Plus a point someone mentioned earlier about Fury and his aging (Ultimate Marvels), I remember Fury volunteering to take the same serum as Capt America (alter ego escapes me right now). Only difference was that he didn't gain all of the super strength that Cap got.

I look forward to seeing ole Mace Windu heading up SHIELD!

"The Howling Commando's were WWII.

Yep, read'em when they came out. But THAT Nick Furey was white. This will be the Ultimate "Nick Fury."

Now yes, we are talking about a comic book world, so something can be figured out to explain Fury not being physically 80+ years old even if he is that old in fact...but Commandos were, in fact Rangers, and sadly at that point in history, black soldiers were not afforded the respect they deserved that would have led to any of them being in the Ranger/commando forces...so this "ultimate" Nick Fury probably was not a "Howling Commando" in WW I I. The screen writers will of coarse work it out...or they will simply ignore the whole question.

While I am at raditionalist for the most part and would love to see a WW I I Howling Commandos movie...properly done...I would not object to an update version for the purposes of the Marvel "movie" continuity. Jackson, as Fury leading the Howlers on missions in Afganistan/Iraq...prequals to the upcoming story line, and setting up a SHIELD flick.

Thought? Comments? Curses of my ancestors?

By jbs780 at 1:08 PM ON 02/26/09

And yes, I did forget about the character of Gabe Jones in the Howlers. My bad, on that , but I still don't think that historically there would have been a black sergent leading a Ranger squad on secret raids into Germany.

Any chance Nick Fury might show up in Spider Man 4 or Wolverine or any other Marvel movie?

Be cool to bring all the Marvel characters into one universe.

By heystu at 8:07 PM ON 03/07/09

Jackson is such a great actor, I'm glad this deal was made. I think he should be the son or grandson of the original Sgt Fury. That way you have the connection to the original Fury, eliminate the race issue during WWII and give him and Capt. America a connection..."I knew your grandfather". Also, remember when cap wakes up in Ultimates 1. He says something about how he knew the highest ranking black officer and that the modern Fury must be lying.

By Bill at 1:19 PM ON 04/05/09

I never even noticed that Fury had a tan!
