SCI FI announced that its newest original series, Warehouse 13, has begun production in Toronto with an eye to a July premiere.

Eleven episodes are in production, in addition to the previously produced two-hour pilot.

Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly and Saul Rubinek star in the one-hour dramedy from Universal Cable Productions.

After saving the life of the president, two Secret Service agents find themselves abruptly transferred to Warehouse 13—a massive, top-secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota, which houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government.

The Warehouse's caretaker, Artie (Rubinek), charges Pete (McClintock) and Myka (Kelly) with chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to cache at the Warehouse, as well as helping him to control the warehouse itself. CCH Pounder, who appears in the pilot, returns in a guest-starring role as Artie's boss, Mrs. Frederic.

Warehouse 13 comes from Universal Cable Productions and is executive-produced by Jack Kenny (The Book of Daniel), who also serves as show runner. David Simkins (The Dresden Files) is executive producer; Jace Alexander (Burn Notice) is co-executive producer and director; and Stephen Surjik (Monk) is producer/director.

I will check this show out, even though it sounds like an updated version of my all-time favorite show "Friday the 13th: The Series"

Wings: Good call on 'Friday the 13th: The Series.'

For me, I was thinking it sounds like TNT's 'Librarian' trilogy of films. Librarian/Secret Service Agents hunt down strange artifacts (Spear, Chalice, etc) to store in a 'protetcted' facility (NY, I think, library/Warehouse 13). Hijinks ensue...

I'll check it out. I enjoyed the 'Librarian' movies as a watered-down 'Indiana Jones'-type story. A weekly series with the same concept might do well....IF done properly, of course.

I read the pilot script for it. It's sort of Friday the 13th the series with a certain stolen plot element from The Dresden Files (never mind they have one of The Dresden Files writers and two of it's cast members). Bob the ghost is now a younger ghost named sam and instead of bound to a skull he's bound to a wallet. This just annoys me to no end.

Why do this? Wouldn't it have been more practical and make more sense than to just continue The Dresden Files?

This is almost painful to endure when The Dresden Files was actually... You know... good.

Sure the script isn't THAT bad but it's weak. It gets interesting when they get to the actual warehouse and there's this funny bit about deviled eggs but it's STILL weak. And I would still rather see The Dresden Files. I don't want to deal with Sam the wallet boy, I'd rather see Bob the Ghost.

This is the most shameful thing the Scifi Channel's done since not continuing The Dresden Files. David Simkins, I love you. I love what you did for The Dresden Files. I loved the What about Bob episode of The Dresden Files. It was my favourite one. But I'd have a Hell of a lot more respect for you if you had fought to continue The Dresden Files instead of doing this. There's a new Dresden Files novel coming out in April, Turn Coat. And the first chapter reads like something that could have happened on The Dresden Files TV series. There were so many unresolved plots with Dresden Files TV series including the whole Winifred / Bob back story thing which also could have gone into the origin of the High Council. That could have made for a seriously good made for TV movie.

The Scifi Channel still has the rights to The Dresden Files for another two years or so. They clearly still have access to the cast and crew. One writer and two cast members for Warehouse 13 and Robert Hewitt Wolfe working on Riverworld so why not do something with The Dresden Files while you still have the rights and access to the people who made the show? It's not too late to win back some of my respect after this mess.

I will give Warehouse 13 a chance but I seriously hope they alter that script I read. It was like Friday the 13th the series meets The Dresden Files' Bob... version 2.0 as a subplot.

I think it should also be pointed out that this looks a lot like Warehouse 23, a setting created by Steve Jackson Games which is also the name of their web store. Actually it looks exactly like W23.

It sounds like a spin on all those shows that have already been mentioned as well as on SANCTUARY. I guess this "original program" isn't really all that original.

I'll give the show a chance, but it does remind me of a weaker Librarian, in series form.

IMO I don't agree with the comparison's to either the X-Fiels or Dresden Files, both favorites of mine. The X-Files and Dresden Files were darker dramas. It reminds me more of Eureka, and it seems to be the way SciFi is moving, more light comedy then dark drama. I liked the X-Files and Dresden Files because they had a darker edge to them.

I hope the show gets better over the season, and will give it a serious chance. In the meantime bring back the Dresden Files and Threshold for comparison.
