Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester on The CW's Supernatural, said that he's sure his demon-hunter character will have to deal with the consequences of using his mystical powers as the current season wraps.
"By the end of the season, I'm sure they're going to do something big, and ... —I'm speaking as an audience member—but I'm sure we're going to see Sam go dark side or get very, very close to going to [the] dark side," Padalecki said in a group interview on Saturday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where he was promoting his upcoming movie, Friday the 13th.
In the current fourth season, it's been revealed that Sam has developed the ability send demons back to hell with a wave of his hand. He's also taken up with Ruby (Genevieve Cortese), a demon in human form. This despite warnings from his brother, Dean (Jensen Ackles), that there will be hell to pay if he keeps it up. Padalecki said the show has completed 17 of the season's 22 episodes.
Padalecki admits that series creator Eric Kripke keeps him in the dark about upcoming plot developments. "Sam is definitely getting more into his supernatural abilities, whatever they may ... be," he says, then adds: "Our writer, Kripke, kind of doesn't let us in on a whole lot. And I'd rather not know, you know? Because I don't want to worry about it."
A lot depends on whether Supernatural gets picked up for a fifth season, Padalecki says. "I hate it, because we're on the sort of brink where it's like, 'Well, are we going to come back? Do we know if we're going to come back for another year, or should we wrap it up?' ... That's where TV is just a pain in the ass, because you're like, 'Just tell me how long I have so I know how to tell a story.' As opposed to 'Let's keep asking questions. Let's keep answering them with more questions.' I hate it. I hate it. It's really frustrating. But I'm sure something'll happen." Supernatural airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

I would hate to see Sam go dark side. I think that if he almost goes dark side and then has Dean pull him back from the brink would be a good way to wrap up the season.

honestly, the only thing that would lift this show to Whedon proportions might be a third, interesting brother, played by an actual actor.
Meanwhile, there is something to be said for a show that my tivo can fast forward thru in less than 22 minutes. The two stars spend more time talking about their feelings than the r-tards on 'the hills'.
Look, i'm gay, so i know a little something about 'gay', and this show?...GAY
Hire an actual writer!!!

Sam just about HAS to go darkside with all the hinting they've done. Otherwise, why all the handwringing?

this show, the people behind it (writers, directors, jared, jensen) kick ass!
Jared proves again in this article that he's a force to be reckoned with!

Sam needs to go darkside, even for a little bit, if for no other reason than to challenge Jared a bit and keep his character a challenge to play. He does evil-Sammy very well.
To REWOD: you 'being' gay and you defining the show as 'gay', totally different things, in case you didn't know it. Bringing in a third Winchester is nothing short of the biggest jump-the-shark moment, not to mention soap-opera cliche. Unless one of the current leads wants to take a break or more time off, there's no reason for any more Winchesters to show up... especially one that is still in high school. blech! Seriously. As for writers, yeah, they've got about 8 of them on the team. Besides, SPN doesn't need to copy Whedon. They've managed to go just great and be very creative on their own.

I think It is a natural progression for the show for Sam to go Dark side and that's fine as long as Dean can save him and Ruby Dies. Sorry I can not stand her.

Anyone saying this show is Gay is just a moron. And saying get real actors and writers. Please people why don't you write and act in it then, i am tired of you haters and morons who just can't enjoy a good show.

Sam going dark - side is kind of obvious for viewers and the characters. As characters, I think Sam and Dean understand the consequences of using "supernatural" powers in order to combat demons. Sam gets the fact that at some point, the only way of fighting fire is with fire. Morality however does not work that way, it is not "what you use" what is important, but "what purpose does it serve". If you are using magic for good, it does not matter what you are using as far as you are willing to accept the consequences. Sam has accepted loosing his brother's trust, sacrificing himself. He is not happy doing what he does, and he knows Dean will never approve of Sam using his powers. Fighting destiny just proves to delay the inevitable, in the case of Supernatural (as it was in the case of Angel, Buffy, and any other show that dealt with demons, angels and the end of the world), the world is meant to be over. It is a matter of how and when that matters.
If you were in Sam's and Dean's place, believing that you can stop the inevitable - "hope" is the only thing that keeps you going.

well, Sam.. you can relax. Supernatural Has been picked up early for next season(#5!).
Sam IS Going Darkside, but he seems to be controlling it very well. Keeping the monster from coming out.
Love the show!
