Thor casting call reported; what about Kevin McKidd?

\<i\>Thor\<\/i\> casting call reported; what about Kevin McKidd?

Corona Coming Attractions reports that a new casting call has gone out for Thor, the adaptation of the Marvel comic to be directed by Kenneth Branagh.

The casting call throws into question the reported casting of Kevin McKidd (HBO's Rome), who was previously in talks to play the title god of thunder.

According to the site, the producers are seeking a male actor described as "mid-late 20s, 6 feet tall or taller" and "physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severely humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature hero of our film."

The start date of filming is given as July, and the wrap is September.

No No No No NO NO NO !!!! I'm sorry as much as a like kevin he is not right to play Thor and I'm so sick of all the IMDB idiots thinking Tripple H is the man for the job. Sure if you want Thor to look like a moronic neandathal. Karl Urban isn't right either for that matter.

It's a tough role to play but finding the right man for the job will be more difficult !!

You'd think they try to cast Don Blake first then the Norse God of Thunder. Thor needs to be bigger than life in all ways.

Kevin McKidd is a quality actor who would've done a great job as Thor. The fact that they are going "younger" shows they are not thinking about making a good film but rather one that will make money quickly before people realize how bad it is.

I'm a huge Kevin McKidd fan, but I can see them wanting to go younger with Thor. It's simply just a matter of the look of the character, and McKidd misses it by a little, which is an maddening truth.

Perhaps McKidd could play Odin! Really, it would be much easier to age him with make-up and appliances than try to make him look younger, especially since he'd have to be clean-shaven as Thor. And we could see McKidd as a younger Odin in a flashback or two.

Mckidd is awsome but I agree that he just misses the mark for Thor. But I think that he would make a great Dr. Blake.

Forget Kevin McKidd. Vladimir Kulich would've been perfect as Thor. Sadly, the man's about 25 years to old to play Thor. Damn shame, because while I was watching The 13th Warrior he was exactly what I pictured out of a live-action Thor. The only thing he was missing was a hammer.

Restricting things to mid to late 20's is stupid, though. Especially when you've got not one but TWO good actors capable of playing Thor, and they're in their early to mid 30's. By that I mean Kevin McKidd, of course, as well as Alexander SkarsgÄrd. They should especially keep things open in the later case, as he looks even younger.

There's one guy this role is meant for... Don't know his name but he was in Kingdom of Heaven... First 10 minutes or so, group is attacked in the forest and a big, blonde viking of a dude gets an arrow through the neck... That's the guy...

By rogue5 at 9:29 AM ON 02/20/09

I think McKidd can play Blake and have the "20 something" play actual Thor. The movie might even work better to have the 2 characters vastly different.

Alexander Skarsgard from True Blood is my Thor vote...

By Rick at 11:12 AM ON 02/20/09

McKidd is one of my favorite actors. I loved him in Rome and Journeyman. With today's special effects and personal trainers, he could pull this off. Look what they did for Gerard Butler in 300.

McKidd would have made a great Donald Blake. Hold your outrage, but Tyler Mane would have made a fantastic Thor. Putting aside his anemic Sabertooth performance (which was more the script's fault than Mane's), the guy really does have chops. But, realistically, I have to agree with C.H.A.D... Skarsgard fits the bill for what they're after.

I love Kevin McKidd. He was great in Dog Warriors and Rome, but he may be a little short for the God of Thunder.

By Kerrith at 2:55 PM ON 02/20/09

I second Alexander Skarsgard.

Who says Vladimir Kulich is too old to play Thor? Remember, Thor is immortal and thousands of years old. I think he'd be great for the role!

By Curt at 8:22 PM ON 02/20/09

Adam "Edge" Copeland would be **perfect** as Thor.

I called Skarsgard as Thor months ago on Mania after I saw him in Generation Kill on HBO. Yes, that's right, I'm saying it was MY idea. :P

I honestly can't see anybody doing it but him. He looks the part (I mean c'mon, he's a freakin Swede!) and he can act.

Casting agents for Captain America beware: if these morons pass on Skaarsgard for Thor, he'd make a perfect Cap. This too I called months ago. :)

I just have three words for you: Michael Clarke Duncan.

By AZEqualizer at 10:40 AM ON 02/21/09

I think they should drop the whole Dr Blake thing and go for the Thor in the Ultimate Universe... It has a lot more depth and isn't so campy....

By yahoohahah at 12:08 AM ON 02/22/09

three more words: Michael Clarke Duncan

By Ronin1013 at 10:38 PM ON 02/24/09

I don't know if he has the acting chops, but Paul Walker has the look for Thor or "Cap."

By padidas at 5:43 AM ON 02/27/09

Thor is a Scandinavian God, so it makes sense to cast someone as perfect as True Blood's viking vampire, ALEX SKARGAARD!!!!

By Cassiach at 1:49 PM ON 02/27/09

Hmm...tall, blonde, scandanavian god, in his 20's...sounds like a good decription of Alex Skarsgaard who is currently playing the vampire Eric on HBO's True Blood
