Warner Brothers defends \<em\>Sherlock Holmes\<\/em\> shoot

Warner Brothers issued a statement today to refute rumors that claimed the studio had asked Guy Ritchie to reshoot parts of its upcoming Sherlock Holmes project starring Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio was forced to issue its statement after a flurry of U.K. media coverage spawned by an article in the tabloid newspaper The Sun that stated that Ritchie had to recall cast members for reshoots.

Per the statement, "It is not true that Warner Bros. has asked for any reshoots on Sherlock Holmes. The inserts and pickup shots being completed next week, which have long been part of the schedule, do not involve any cast, and are a standard part of filmmaking."

The movie, which recently completed shooting, stars Downey as the British sleuth and Jude Law as his trusted sidekick, Dr. Watson. The film is currenty slated for release on Nov. 20, 2009.

Is this Sherlock Holmes versus the Aliens? Why is this information on an Historical drama here on a SciFi site?

Um, nothing better to do than make snarky comments?

Because he use science to solve his crimes and its fiction. Ok that was stretching it a bit......

As we already know the Sci Fi channel extends itself to ALL genre fare-- science fiction, fantasy, horror, action AND adventure. This new take on Sherlock is going to be considered adventure (not just 'mystery'). Remember "Young Sherlock Holmes"?

Sherlock Holmes is one of the most popular literary characters of all time. Since he always seems to pop up in different media and genres I think it is appropriate to have an article about the movie on Sci Fi Wire; the fact that the character is being played by Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., does not hurt this article’s case. I have read some of the original tales as well as newer stories where he battles wits with Dracula and Mr. Hyde. I can’t wait to see this movie, although I always picture Dr. Watson as being older and fatter than Holmes.

I can see why they have the article here. It's about a movie starring Downey, and directed by Ritchie, and they are trying to connect with the fan base associated with them. And Holmes is on the very fringe of the parameters of this site, so they are also trying to connect with their fan base.

But that's really as far as it goes. Any similarity between this site and that information is purely for promotional use. You didn't hear about this movie on this site when it went into pre-production, or when it started filming. Why? Because it was prior to the new format here. Is it a good thing that it's being talked about now? That's up to you to decide on your own.

because Sherlock Holmes definitely had an element of victorian-era super-science (very tastefully done) to it.
