Watchmen's Jeffrey Dean Morgan starring in The Losers

Watchmen star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in negotiations to star in the comic-book-based The Losers for Warner Brothers, with Sylvain White directing, Variety reported.

The film adapts the DC-Vertigo comic book, about a band of black-ops commandos who are set up to be killed by their own government. They barely survive and set out to get even.

The James Vanderbilt-scripted project is being financed by Dark Castle Entertainment, with Dark Castle's Joel Silver, Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster producing, the trade paper reported.

There is something so cool about the way Jeffrey Dean Morgan says that "only a matter of time" line in the Watchmen trailer. Just that one little moment gets me jazzed to see the movie (plus, you know, all the other cool stuff in the trailer).

I've seen The Losers comic at stores, but I haven't read it. The story sounds like it's been done many other times, but maybe it'll be a very original take.

Still, seeing Akiva Goldsman's name makes me nervous. I know he's got Oscar-winning credits to his name, but, for me, I always first think of how his name is attached to crap like Lost in Space (the movie) and the last couple Batman movies with Val Kilmer and George Clooney. Of course, I think Goldsman wrote the scripts for those movies, not produced them. Eh, I suppose that means he makes a better producer than writer.

If you've not read The Losers comic book (you can buy the entire series spread over 5 books) - buy it. I can't wait to see this on the big screen. The Losers is one of the best modern-day storylines I've read in a while.
