Who will collect Heath Ledger's Oscar if the Joker wins on Sunday?

Who will collect Heath Ledger\'s Oscar if the Joker wins on Sunday?

Matilda Ledger, the 3-year-old daughter of late Australian actor Heath Ledger, will be the eventual owner of an Oscar if he wins a statuette Sunday for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight, but his family will accept the award in Hollywood on his behalf, the Reuters news service reported.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said on Wednesday it has decided that if Ledger wins a rare posthumous Oscar for his performance, Matilda will receive the Oscar after she turns 18.

Ledger, 28, died last year of a prescription drug overdose. He is widely expected to win the best-supporting-actor Oscar at the Feb. 22 Academy Awards in Hollywood after picking up virtually every other award in that category this season.

He would be only the second actor to receive an Oscar after death, following Peter Finch, who won in 1976 for Network, and his family will be on hand if he does win, traveling from the actor's hometown of Perth in Western Australia for the ceremony.

I don't understand what all the hoopla was about The Dark Knight. I watched it a few weeks ago, and it was absolutely TERRIBLE!!! Heath Ledger was crap, I don't care if he's dead. His portrayal of the Joker was, well, a joke. He was certainly no Jack Nicholson, a man BORN to play the Joker. Ledger was hardly even in the movie to begin with. The movie had no cohesion. This movie was SO hyped up that the disappointment at how bad it was was as bad as the undeserved hype. The only reason this movie made so much money was because Heath Ledger died. That's IT. It NEVER would have made anywhere NEAR that much money otherwise. And Ledger absolutely does NOT deserve an Oscar. His performance was, at best, mediocre, if that.

Sorry if I'm offending Ledger fans and Dark Knight fans out there, but there you have it. Objectively.

Are you serious ulic? you probably have no taste in movies AT ALL. that movie was probably one of the best ever. you say Jake Nicholson was a man born to play the joker? dude go back to your 80 movies were they don't know how to act, despite some really good movies. I really don't know what to say but for a fact you are probably really bad movie critic, you probably liked the punisher: warzone.

No, I have no interest in it at all. I'm not a movie critic at all. I'm just a guy who's seen many movies (and I know, probably compared to you, I'm an old, 36 year-old geezer) and tries to discern good from bad. The Dark Knight was bad. Sorry.

Remember, also, that's MY opinion, not one you have to share, and certainly not one you should disparage. You probably like movies I hate, I probably love movies YOU hate. That's cool. Doesn't mean I have NO taste in movies. It means I have DIFFERENT taste in movies. In your opinion, The Dark Knight was "one of the best ever." In mine, it's just not. In truth, you can't really have an argument over taste. Everyone has his/her own, and it's not accountable to anyone else.

Oops. Sorry about the duplication...

When I said no interest at all, I meant in the Punisher movie. Never seen it, never will.

@ulic,

I'm 35, and while it had it's plot-holes, I did think that Dark Knight was awesome in it's shear scope. What you had was a sinister plot that would have been just as effective on Superman, which is a rarity. I thought Ledger did a brilliant job, possibly the best film Joker ever, but I'm not one of those that are trying to get the Joker retired, either. I wouldn't mind another interpretation when another reboot takes place in a decade or so.

But as you say, these are only opinions, and I do respect yours. I just happen to disagree.

Who Cares he sucked! If he hadn't killed himself no one would care. He played a person that he truned out to be like, that's not acting. Acting isplaying A PERSON YOU ARE NOT LIKE. Man I hate how people are treating Ledger like he was john lennon. BTW for thoses of you under 30 He was one of the beatles.
