Will Star Trek's Anton Yelchin put on Green Lantern's ring?

Will \<i\>Star Trek\<\/i\>\'s Anton Yelchin put on \<i\>Green Lantern\<\/i\>\'s ring?

Latino Review reports a rumor that Terminator Salvation and Star Trek cast member Anton Yelchin is up for the role of Hal Jordan in Warner Brothers' upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Citing an anonymous source, the site reports that Yelchin, who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, is "certainly a possibility."

Yelchin's name came up after other actors such as Sam Worthington, Emile Hirsch and Ryan Gosling passed or were unavailable because of scheduling conflicts, the site reported.

Yelchin plays Chekov in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek and the young Kyle Reese in McG's upcoming Terminator Salvation.

isn't he a little short for a green lantern? not making any judgements here, but i think nathan fillion would be a much better choice. he LOOKS like hal. this guy looks like the KID chekov's supposed to be.

OMG, Nathan Fillion, you are right, he would be perfect. Good call

By cogadh at 3:49 AM ON 02/27/09

I know its still early, but if they cast him in the role, the movie is already off on the wrong foot. He's too short and doesn't have the right physique. Maybe if they put him in a dog costume, he could be cast as G'Nort, but there is no way he should be Hal Jordan

Nathan Fillion would be great in the role... provided they are not sticking to an actual origin story. He's too old to play Hal Jordan from the days when he first got the ring.

If it really mattered what we fans wanted, most movies today wouldn't even be made. Every time the perfect script is put together with the perfect cast suggestions, a meeting is called to see how much they can change just to piss fandom off.

Well, in terms of being a test pilot / fighter pilot, he would actually be the correct height to play Hal Jordan because the cockpits are pretty cramped and they prefer shorter pilots.

The Air Force does allow pilots as tall as 6' 5" (and as short as 5'4", but the preference is for the middle between the two.

Besides, an actor's true height doesn't need to be an issue if they film it in a way that doesn't draw attention to his height.

Yelchin is so, so wrong for this part. Short and scrawny won't do for Green Lantern. I truly hope WB doesn't f**k this up. GL is probably one of the lesser known heroes in the DC Universe, compared at least to the trio of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, but there's so much potential with this character if done right.

Nathan fillion Would not be good. He
's to familiar with the Serenety and his new show. Plus they should get a relative newcomer to do the great Green lantern. c'mon guys have a lil imagination... or should Clooney reprise role playn batman?! yesssshhh Borringgggg nathan fillion lol

Nathan Fillion is a fine actor, but a wee bit too old to be starting out a superhero franchise like this. Maybe if Hal was already established as GL in the movie, but not an origin story.
They need someone younger. Jensen Ackles, maybe. Someone like that.

By creelnib at 11:51 AM ON 02/27/09

I'd say go with someone like this guy, he is up and coming and height is NOT an issue in movies...they have ways to make you look taller on camera guys.

By Cirdan2325 at 12:46 PM ON 02/27/09

How about the actor who plays Nick Stokes on CSi?

By Parallaxmjm at 2:18 PM ON 02/27/09

The height isn't the issue, because if there is one character where height does not really have to matter, it would be with a Green Lantern (much like a Jedi) since physical appearance or limitations has no bearing on their power. The problem with this guy is that he's too young and doesn't have the presence Hal needs to have. Fillion is too old, but this guy is too young. Supposedly, despite having been rejected once already, WB really wants Ryan Gosling and is going to try again.

By Parallaxmjm at 2:23 PM ON 02/27/09

And GL is hardly one of the least known characters in the DC Universe. He is probably 4th in line, right after Wonder Woman, and he should be ahead of her based on importance alone to the entire DC Universe.

He isn't as well known as Spider-Man, no doubt, but it isn't like doing one of the young obscure members of the JSA or anything. And I agree, the potential is amazing, so they better get the right Hal.

By Bogleg at 2:47 PM ON 02/27/09

At the moment, the Justice League film is in pre-production again and going with the John Stewart version. There is only a rumored actor (Common) linked to it. I can't see WB wanting two versions until later in the franchise. To this end, I'd like to see J. August Richards give it a go.

By Parallaxmjm at 3:02 PM ON 02/27/09

I really believe the JLA movie has been shelved. I have heard nothing new on that project for months. And with Green Lantern fast tracked, I don't really think WB would plow ahead with that project now, especially by using different characters or actors from their main franchises. Especially if they have re-tooled their approach based on the Marvel template.

By Djdouglas at 3:08 PM ON 02/27/09

I agree that Nathan Fillion would be an awesome choice however with the way studios try to cast their Superhero roles today they are always looking for someone young (in their 20's) to fill the role due to potential sequels. Nathan is 37. I believe the only exception has been Iron Man and Hulk due to the characters being imagined much older and mature. As big as Green Lantern would be I am sure the studio is looking at a multi-picture potential and they would want an actor that would grow and mature with the role. Anton might be able to fill it as long as he could bulk up. Plus he may not need "just for men: hair coloring" for a few more years.

By Parallaxmjm at 3:12 PM ON 02/27/09

I think he's still too young, and he looks young. He doesn't look like he can pull off a late 20s look. And to me, he doesn't look like the character at all, nor does he give that vibe you need to be Hal.

By Solar at 5:30 PM ON 02/27/09

Yelchin is 19 and looks like he's 12. Obviously he's a poor choice. Of all the names floated I like Jensen Ackles the best. Not too old, not too young and he can carry off the cocky test pilot attitude.

By Robert at 5:40 PM ON 02/27/09

The guy that plays "Helo" in BSG.....whatshisname....Anyway, "Helo" is a tough guy with a strong moral center. He does what he thinks is the right thing to do.

re: ranking DC's superheroes

I'd have to go with the Flash as #4, then probably either GL or Aquaman.

Yes, I know I sound like a geeky little fanboy.

No, I don't care.
