Andy Hallett, who starred as Lorne ("the Host") on the TV series Angel, died of heart failure last night at age 33, his longtime agent and friend Pat Brady told E! Online.
Hallett, who was a fan favorite, died at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after a five-year battle with heart disease, with his father Dave Hallett by his side, the site reported.
A Massachusetts native, Hallett appeared in more than 70 episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff series between 2000 and 2004. The accomplished actor was also a musician and sang two songs ("Lady Marmalade" and "It's Not Easy Being Green") on the Angel: Live Fast, Die Never soundtrack, released in 2005.
Hallett's green demon character assisted Angel (David Boreanaz) and his team in the investigation of underworld mysteries while serving as the host and headliner at a demon bar.
Hallett had spent his post-Angel years working on his music career, playing shows around the country. He had been admitted to the hospital three or four times in the past few years for his heart condition, according to Brady.
A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, most likely over this weekend.

Thank you for showing us some truly wonderful performances. We'll miss you, Andy.

That is very tragic. I had liked his character on Angel. He certainly had talent. I didn't realize he was only thirty three. That's pretty young to die from heart disease. Poor guy.
By Muldfeld at 12:18 AM ON 03/31/09
This is incredibly sad. I remember reading that Andy was sick and signed a "get well" e-card or something. I had no idea he had a sick heart. He was the only source of levity in Angels 2nd and 3rd seasons and I was very sad to see him take on a reduced presence in Season 5; when he did appear, he was wonderful to watch. I'm so sorry he suffered. He was very talented.
I'll miss him because, on "Angel", he made me laugh when he was playing a humorous role and made moved me when he was doing engaging drama.
I wish his father and the rest of his family the best.

Oh, I am so saddened to read of Andy's death. I loved Lorne and I think it was because Andy's charm showed through the green.
My heart goes out to his family.

This is a terrible tragedy. He was so young. My thoughts are with his family and friends in this sad time.

Such a sad thing to hear. He was very talented, and like others said, was one of the few sources of levity on such a darkly themed show. His delivery and style gave me more belly laughs than a lot of other comedic actors...he'll be sorely missed.

Briefly met him at DragonCon about 5 or 6 years ago. One of the nicest celebrity guests I've ever met at a convention. I'm very sad to hear this news. He was a very talented guy.

Such very sad news... I met Andy briefly in London at a con, and he was just a lovely kind talented man. He came on stage and sang for us because we asked, and he was brilliant! He was a great favourite on Angel with all of my family - the green man with the voice of gold will be sadly missed!
My thoughts are with his father and family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Andy at dragoncon 2001 a month before my weddding. He gave me a signed photo addressed to me and my soon to be husband. We talked about his career and my upcoming wedding. My fiancee happened to call me on my cell as we talked Andy said is that the lucky guy I said yes he grabbed my cell and started talking to my fiancee. He was so thrilled to have been able to speak with Andy on the phone. Lorne is our favorite character on Angel. Andy will be greatly missed, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Andy thanks for the pic and taking time to talk to joe and I, we had your picture on our table on our wedding day. You will be missed

I'm very sorry to hear about Andy's passing. Like many others on here, I unfortunately had no idea he was even in poor health. This event would be tragic for anyone, but this seems even more so because of his young age (he was only two years older than me).
My condolences definitely go out to his family.

I absolutely loved the way he came up with names for Angel, and even started unconsciously imitating it, when I called a fellow male friend "Angelcakes." He definitely made an impression and had such an original charm.

Andy's passing is a monumental loss to the entertainment industry :(
RIP Andy. Always loved. Never forgotten.

Such sadness for our loss.. His emotional range & sheer talent was incredible, despite the make up & prosthetics during his run on Angel...it was amazing. People sometimes write-off film actors on genre shows, but he was incredible. He taught me things, as an actor, that I have transferred to the stage. Thank you, Andy. I will pray for you, and your family. You will be sorely missed. May God bless you.

I remember when I was lucky enough to see him at MotorCityBuffy con in 2006. He was the life of the party, laughing and constantly cracking jokes or telling us funny stories from his childhood. At that time he mentioned being in and out of the hospital like it was nothing and I knew he had a problem with his heart but had no diea it was serious until now. It's truly a shock to see such a talented and wonderful performer pass on at such a young age. He will be missed terribly both as a person and as the loveable green demon he played.

My family & I are serious Angel fans and have been for a long time. I always watch the reruns and even record them so I can watch after work. We have watched from the first episode to the final episode at least three times.
Andy Hallet / Lorne was the most endearing character on the show. He was so very likable and it was the character Lorne that made me truly adore Andy Hallet. To hear about him passing away at such a young age of heart failure broke my heart. I don't remember who said it when Bernie Mac died but the same words come to mind now thinking of Andy / Lorne; "the world just got a lot sadder & heaven just became alot funnier". Andy / Lorne was a joy to watch. We will always be sad that we won't get the chance to watch him again.
The casting director who casted Andy / Lorne really did that show justice and in doing so did justice to the fans who got to watch and enjoy him. My condolences to his family & loved ones.
Sincerely,
Holly

Tell me about it!! My friend 'forgot' to tell me! I'm so sad, I loved the character and although I never met Andy, you can tell in interviews and from what other people say that he was an lovely, sweet person. I'm a believer in reincarnation so I know that he's out there somewhere bringing more joy to people. Blessed be, Andy.

I just discovered Hallet after watching Angel: Season 2. Enjoyed everymoment he was onscreen. It's going to be both sad and a joy to watch him in Season 3.
Watch a tragic loss of a great performer and, from I read, a kind man.
"Come on guys, where's the love", Hallet as Lorne's head in "There's No Place Like Plrtz Glrb" :-D
