Gemma Arterton to play a demi-goddess in Clash of the Titans

Gemma Arterton to play a demi-goddess in \<i\>Clash of the Titans\<\/i\>

Empire magazine reports that Gemma Arterton is set to star as the demi-goddess Io in Louis Leterrier's upcoming remake of Clash of the Titans.

According to Arterton (Quantum of Solace), the remake of the 1981 Harry Hamlin fantasy movie differs from the original. "Obviously the story is the story, but it's much more about Perseus' mission and how he deals with being the son of Zeus and things like that, so it feels a little more about him and about the issues around that," she told the magazine.

Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation) is on board as Perseus, while Liam Neeson was supposedly offered the role of Zeus. In the wake of the death of his wife, Natasha Richardson, it's not clear whether he will commit to the role.

YES! Strawberry Fields FOREVER!

I grew up reading the Classic Greek Myths and am very interested in this project. While Clash of the Titans was fun for its time, it's time for a more serious take on the Epic Tale.

Who says epics have always have to be serious? Haven't there been enough ponderous, serious epics lately? Clash of the Titans is fantastic the way it is. I would take it and its stop motion effects over a ponderous CGI monstrosity any day of the week.

Will Ray Harryhausen be on board in any capacity? Consultant or otherwise?

The original Clash of the Titans was great. Hollyweird is no longer able to produce original movies anymore, as seen in all the remakes and reboots over the last 10 to 15 years. And, Locke, those stop motion effects are great I agree.

Liam Neeson as Zeus? I came. Gemma is one of the most gorgeous women on the planet, certainly would be a perfect choice to play a god.

This is one of the films I've been waiting for them to do a re-make on and give us a 2-disc special edition for. Many of the original cast of characters are still available, and I think a commentary with them would be glorious!

I loved that film!!!! I hope they use the Ymir again for the kraken. (The kraken in the original movie was originally used in another Ray Harryhausen film, 20 million miles to earth.)

I have to agree with Locke ... the original CLASH was one of my favorites and I still enjoy watching it now. Not sure how this new film will stack up.
