How Eric Bana's shaved Trek head held up Time Traveler's Wife

Rachel McAdams, who plays the title character in the film adaptation of the novel The Time Traveler's Wife, told a group of reporters that the film's delay was due only to scheduling conflicts for a single scene. Principal photography wrapped in 2007, but Eric Bana (the time traveler), was not immediately available for additional scenes.

"We wound up doing a reshoot, and Eric was the holdup," McAdams said in a group interview on Friday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where she was promoting State of Play. "That's right. He had to shave his head for a different role, for Star Trek, I think. So we were waiting on Eric's hair."

To clarify, the new scene was not a correction, but rather an addition to the story. "It wasn't really reshoot," McAdams said. "We did an additional scene in the meadow, so we were also waiting on the meadow to look the way it did [the first time we shot]. So we were waiting on the seasons. Basically we were waiting on nature and Eric's hair."

McAdams has not seen the new final cut, but early assemblies suggested the film of Audrey Niffenegger's novel will emphasize romance over sci-fi. "I haven't seen it recently," she said. "I saw a cut, like, quite a long time ago, a very, very rough cut. So I haven't seen it in a while. But from what I remember then, it's quite focused on the relationship. There is time travel in it, obviously, and it's kind of cool in the way they deal with it, his shoes kind of clicking down the stairs, and some cool shots with that, but Robert Schwentke, the director, he really explored the relationship and how you carry on with the love of your life when you have this imposition, to say the least."

The Time Traveler's Wife opens Aug. 14.

but what'd they do for his tattoos?

By timshapiroo at 7:00 PM ON 03/28/09

Wouldn't it be funny that the scene the whole film was delayed for was made into a deleted scene. Lol

By Rob at 11:45 AM ON 03/29/09

A better idea: This entire 'Star Trek' movie is a deleted scene. Then maybe sopmeone who knows what they're doing could make a real Star Trek movie.

By Predacorp at 11:52 AM ON 03/29/09

Yeah! 'Cause the other Star Wreck films were soooo great!

By billhedrick at 12:36 PM ON 03/29/09

Rob, I don't believe you've seen the Star Trek movie, so your opinion is meaningless.

By Rob at 12:51 PM ON 03/29/09

Actually, I've seen the only 10 Star Trek movies there ever were, or will be. So it turns out my opinion has more merit than most. Like you wannabes are so fond of saying, "Get over it".

By carleric at 8:17 PM ON 03/29/09

Yeah, the last couple Star Trek movies were just awesome. Wait, I didn't mean awesome. I meant sucky. Nemesis was the worst movie I saw that year.

By Rob at 8:32 PM ON 03/29/09

Yes, some were not so good, but they were real Star Trek movies & they're all there will ever be.

By Methos at 11:17 PM ON 03/29/09

Principal photography wrapped in 2007, seriously just for another scene they waited two years to shot?

By Predacorp at 12:02 AM ON 03/30/09

Rob, I would normaly side with you on this as a disgruntal gamer and comic fan who has been way too often been let down by hollywoods "vision" of a franchaise. While I do love the "Trek" universe it was a slow affair. From what I've seen so far I am exited and hope for the best as far as story and cannon continuity. If not, let it burn with the other "prequels" in hell!

By Previewfilms.net at 12:03 PM ON 03/30/09

Lets just see how it turns out. Considering no trek has been on the airways for a while... it's all we got...

By Predacorp at 7:36 PM ON 03/30/09

Nice plug! Previewfilms.net!

If the book is anywhere near as good as the book, it will be great.

By Son of a Maui Portagee at 7:31 PM ON 03/31/09

frelling_cute once said, "If the book is anywhere near as good as the book, it will be great."

Is that some sort of NOMAD logic bomb designed to dispatch us fans who keep droning "Sterilize (Trek rendition) imperfections. Sterilize imperfections. Sterilize. Sterilize. Sterilize..."?

*POOF* ;-)

I found your website about head shaving. I put together a website to help people figure out if they are losing some hair and are trying to decide to shave their head:
