Mark Millar's 8-hour Superman trilogy is in stasis

Mark Millar\'s 8-hour \<i\>Superman\<\/i\> trilogy is in stasis

Comic writer Mark Millar (Wanted), who had pitched an eight-hour epic trilogy of Superman films, is now saying that the proposed project is on ice for now, according to a report on Slash Film.

"Warner's talked to us and a few other writer/director teams, but things seem to be in stasis right now," Millar reportedly said on his Web site. "As far as I understand, nothing is happening with Superman at the moment, and so the director and I are just working on another project. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, no biggie. Kick-Ass taught me that creating your own stuff can be at least as much fun, and you don't have to answer to anyone. It's the future, baby."

So does that mean the Brian Singer Superman sequel is dead?

By Justo at 2:41 AM ON 03/27/09

I know a writer (he just won a bunch of awards for his debut film) hired by Warner Bros. to do a treatment for a new Superman movie. That probably doesn't mean too much, but at least it means it's not totally dead. I think a Superman movie could do well now with audiences wanting more lighter and up beat fair. I think it's a damn mistake to make everything darker cuz The Dark Knight was dark. It didn't become a huge hit because it was dark, it was because it was a fantastic movie. And frankly, because it was so huge, it's gonna be impossible to replicate that success, especially by doing a knock off of it. People are gonna see a "dark" Superman and gonna know they're just trying to make another Dark Knight.

Well, as was rightly pointed out elsewhere, we GOT a "dark" Superman movie, and Superman Returns tanked! Me, I'm hoping that the rumor that the Wachowski Brothers would do the next reboot on the franchise pans out. It's a minority opinion, I know, but them boys can do no wrong in my book, and I'd love to see what they could do.

Then again, I had high hopes for Singer's treatment, so WTF do I know!

Superman is better off canceled. Its black and white morals are not exactly modern when most successful movies and TV shows rather deal in shades of grey.

They should make a legitimate "Death of Superman" movie, based off the book. Nothing against the Superman/Doomsday spin on Smallville but it's not good enough. And definitely not that weak Superman/Doomsday cartoon that was released a while back.

By Orionv at 7:39 AM ON 03/27/09

Maybe they should realize that there are villains other than Lex Luthor.

By sanga at 8:32 AM ON 03/27/09

or maybe they should realize lex luthor isnt a cheap realestate hood.. i dont know just my opinion. smallville ddomsday is great for a weekly venue and the cartoon movie did a great job at keeping it basic. lets face it superman/doomsday straight froim the comics will never happen too much stuuff.. too many characters and plot lines going on you need a 12 hour mini series to make that work the right way. and not everything has to be dark in world of greed and shoddy morales having a good superheroe who doesnt kill and has black and white morales is a good thing for people to look up to.

By Rafe at 8:52 AM ON 03/27/09

Please, please, please! Keep Mark Millar away from Superman! He's a one-note, ultra violent hack!

And, no more Lex Luthor. I'm sick of Lex Luthor!

By DC Fan at 9:37 AM ON 03/27/09

If they want to do an honest reboot of Superman, starting from scratch and dealing with his Kryptonian origins and using Brainiac as the villian, I'd be on board with it. If they want to have Luthor ominously in the background, seething that Superman has stolen his thunder as Metropolis' most powerful man, even better. But enough with the silly, madcap Lex Luthor being followed around by incompetant bunglers. As far as "black and white" morals, they are needed in today's society more than ever. We just went through 8 years of a Presidential administration that blurred the lines between right and wrong and I think it's high time we had someone come out and clearly define what those lines are.

they still want a supes movie...just not millars dumbsounding idea for a supes movie.im cool with a domsday or braniac...or darkseid movie.....hell maybe then they will have a really good movie.

I'd vastly prefer a Grant Morrison-penned Superman movie franchise. He's a much more capable writer than Millar ever was. Besides, All-Star Superman is the best Superman story ever written and I'm including Alan Moore's superman into the assessment.

How is Mark Millar's superman in stasis? It never was Mark Millar's Superman. He may have pitched to the studio (but knowing Millars relentless self propotion that could well be BS) but thats it. Its an 8 hour epic that never was. Yet some how he's appeared on every website and even newspapers as a writer intrinsically linked to the franchise.
Seriously, anyone could come up with a superman story idea that would never be made. What makes Millar so special.

Singer really screwed up Superman Returns...I don't even see how he could have thought that (script) was a "good" story. Superman's kid? A dirty look land mass made with Kryptonite that Superman is still able to lift into space? Lex Luthor...again?

The movie had some great special effects, but whomever read that script and said, "that's the one we need to make" needs go back to their day job.

We need something with Superman that is FRESH!

Bring on that Justice League Movie!
