Michael Bay to cast Frank Welker as Soundwave in Transformers 2?

Michael Bay to cast Frank Welker as Soundwave in \<i\>Transformers 2\<\/i\>?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen director Michael Bay told fans on his official message board that he was going to go after original Transformers voice actor Frank Welker to play the role of Soundwave.

"I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave," Bay posted in response to fans who implored Bay to consider casting Welker.

Bay, who cast original Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen in the same role in his first Transformers movie, raised a minor kerfuffle when he passed over Welker (who also voiced Megatron in the animated TV series) in favor of Hugo Weaving, who will be back to voice Megatron in the sequel.

According to Wikipedia, Welker voiced eight of the original 14 Decepticons in the 1980s animated series, including Megatron/Galvatron, Soundwave, Skywarp, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage and Ratbat. Welker had no role in the 2007 live-action movie.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, John Benjamin Hickey, Ramon Rodriguez, Isabel Lucas and John Turturro. It opens in conventional and IMAX theaters on June 24.

A minor correction SciFiWire. Leonard Nimoy was the voice of Galvatron in the Transformers Movie. I know this because I was addicted to that movie growing up.

minor correction wash19, the article says megatron/galetron in the series, not the movie

Judd Nelson doing anything these days? I mean, I don't think Hot Rod/Rodimus is in this one, but you know, people need to get paid these days.

Nimoy WAS the voice of Galvatron in the TRansformers 1986 movie, he was also the voice of Unicron towards the end of the movie as Orson Wells passed away before all the VO work was completed.

Having Welker in this movie will certainly boost fans appreciation of the flick, but we still hate Bay for making the robots look like giant walk piles of scrap.

I don't know why they bothered with somebody as well known as Hugo Weaving for Megatron. His voice was so altered to make him sound robotic. It didn't even sound like him.

Having Peter Cullen back as Optimus was AMAZING! Having Frank Welker also doing Megagtron would have been mind blowing!

Soundwave w/ Buzzsaw was my very first Transformer in 1984, and I loved his 'synthesizer' sounding voice from the original series. But seeing Devastator in the trailers sent chills down my spine and that is what I am looking forward to the most.

Marty B, Judd is doing just fine getting small roles on television. He was on an episode of Eleventh Hour a few months ago. So, lets not be so hasty to get him in on the action. Afterall Hot Rod became leader only when Optimus Died. We saw how well the franchise did when that happend.

I'll throw my agreement in with the above postulations. Frank did a fantastic job as Soundwave in the original series. I have to admit, he made for one of the best sounding transformers I remember of G1. That synthesized voice was something I looked forward to hearing. Kind of like the Cylon voice that came from original Galactica. I liked those as well. Too bad they didn’t bring that over to the new series of Galactica.
