New video for the Terminator 2 Blu-ray release you really don't need

New video for the \<i\>Terminator 2\<\/i\> Blu-ray release you really don\'t need

You know that "Skynet Edition" of Terminator 2: Judgment Day that's coming out on Blu-ray in May?

There's now a commercial for it on the Web, which we're happy to post here for your enjoyment, only because we just love seeing James Cameron's shots again and seeing what a real Terminator movie is supposed to look like. You can watch it after the jump.

Lionsgate will release Terminator 2 Skynet Edition, a new Blu-ray version of the classic sci-fi movie, on May 19, featuring multiple THX-certified high-definition versions of the film, an all-new 6.1 audio mix and more than eight hours of interactive special features.

They keep pushing blu-ray like it is the second coming of Phillip K. Dick. Too bad it'll be years before it is the format of choice, if it ever is. Someone will come along with a better, cheaper format and make a fortune.

The T-1000 was pretty unrivaled as a scary enemy, but Cameron is far more interesting and dynamic a character than Schwartzenegger, and the TV show has far more interesting themes than the films. I'll take another season of Toni Graphia's writing on the show over any future films, especially ones by so superficial a guy as McG.

Blu-Ray is very likely the last physical format ever. The next one has already been around for decades, it's simply digital delivery, aka the internets.

Ooh, it's on Blu-Ray, be still my beating heart. I mean it's got BD-Live games, so it must be really good!

It seems they only have the theatrical and special edition versions of the film, there's also a further extended cut with a few extra scenes and there is also the "happy ending" where Sarah talks about John becoming a senator. How about a version of the film that has that ending? Then I can pretend Terminator 3 and Salvation don't exist... although I would still enjoy watching the Sarah Conner Chronicles.

@photoboy

That is the third version on the disc. I don't know why they didn't mention it in the ad though. In the ad they use a "three split", but only mention two versions. I have read elsewhere (probably digital bits) that the third version will also be on it.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for a true widescreen edition of "The Abyss". One that isn't leterboxed on all four sides on my widescreen TV.

honestly purely digital media wont fly until every house int he world can get UNLIMITED hight speed internet
and the current systems dont have near enoguthr the bandwith to handle it
i mean imagine every single dvd or blu-ray was streamed to houses its would 10-25 X the current bandwith needs easy and theres no way it will handle and many place dont have unlimited yet or if they do they cost Way too much

By zonker at 4:16 AM ON 03/12/09

kevin j there was a cheaper version. it was called hd dvd and look what happened to it. cost has nothing to di with what survives. its how much money is behind the format that matters. kd dvd came out of the box completely up to date wheras blu ray still has format and version issues ie. 1.0 2.0 etc. i will however give you that if they dont lower the price of software especially catalog titles it will die also. i mean a list price of 39.95 for i robot is such a ripoff. i wonder if some of these people who created this format are from another planet. which brings me to t2 which i might have bought oh say 5 versions of it. well i am DONE with it. its almost as bad as star wars copies i have owned. and still no lotr blu ray. they need to get there heads out of there you know whats's. now i will go and decide which version of t2 i will watch. the shame of it all

By darksheik at 7:19 AM ON 03/12/09

Funny how everyone comes here to opine about Blu-Ray and not Terminator.

By stealthgear at 8:56 AM ON 03/12/09

to darksheik

Because T2 is the best movie ever made. Blu-Ray is annoying because we already have at least one or two versions of the movie on DVD.

By Bad_Boy at 4:31 PM ON 03/12/09

I still have the old laserdisc of T2 which was the first with added scenes!
Then I got the Ultimate T2 on DVD (the one with the metal tin box).
Should I get the Blu-Ray and triple-dip too?

By Graham at 8:00 PM ON 03/12/09

Until there is a release with the Guns'n'Roses video, I'll stick with my tin box 3 film version. I've seen the first T2 Blu-Ray release on region 2. It looked like a direct transfer from the DVD and if anything, my DVD copy looked better when upscaled.

Any news on if this will be region free or not? So far region encoding (or the lack of it) seems to be a big benefit of Blu Ray as opposed to what dvd went through (different regions, RCE etc)
