The 1990 film Ghost will debut next year on the stage with music and lyrics courtesy of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and Glen Ballard, the songwriter-producer responsible for Alanis Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill, Variety reported today.
Bruce Joel Rubin, who won an Oscar for the movie's screenplay, will adapt his original tale, while Matthew Warchus (Boeing-Boeing, Art) will direct.
The creators are aiming for a 2010 London premiere.

Out of all the films being adapted into plays now I have to say this one is probably the most suitable.

First Hollywood, now Broadway is has run out of original ideas. How sad for us all.

Broadway's BEEN low on ideas.
Musicals of the last three years:
Lestat (act 2 is Interview with the vampire)
Legally Blond
Shrek
Young Frankenstein
Foot loose
Tarzan
The Little Mermaid
Leap of Faith (to open this spring, I think)
Adams Family (In workshop)
Spiderman
Ghost
There are more new film to musicals but I can't think of them off hand.

I laugh and dispise all of this YARM (yet another remake).
The more YARM comes out the more time I get to actually read a book.

up next? Short Circuit the musical
"JOOOOONYYYYY 5555555 - IIIIIS AAAALIIIIIIIIVE!"
then all good taste vanished from the universe

Shh... Don't give them ideas. If you keep this up we'll end up with a play in which Terrence Mann dresses as a giant robot and Sarah Brightman is forcibly made to revisit eighties hair.

I actually think Leap of Faith could make a good musical... if it's the one I'm thinking of with Steve Martin. Lot of room for Gospel style shoutin and dancing. I think a good musical could be made out of Fried Green Tomatoes, if they did it right.

Yes, that's the right one you're thinking of. I was interested in seeing Leap of Faith but only if they keep Terrence Mann in the cast. I know he was on the workshop version but I think he's now involved with the Adams Family musical instead. It's hard for me to keep up with what's gong on with Broadway (at the moment I'm not living near New York City the way I used to). There are a handful of Broadway actors who can draw me to a play that I would otherwise ignore. Disney's The Little Mermaid is surprisingly good as a play. And I liked Lestat before it was dumbed down for New York (The San Francisco version was a LOT better). Drew Sarich was incredible as Armand.

Hate to break it to you folks, but almost all the Broadway musicals we love have been based on material previously produced in other venues.
1. Rent: Puccini's opera La Boheme
2. Miss Saigon: Puccini's Madame Butterfly
3. West Side Story: Romeo and Juliet
4. Oklahoma!: Green Grow the Lilacs a play by Lynn Riggs
5. Chicago: A stage play of the same name by Maurine Dallas Watkins
6. Phantom of the Opera: Based on the novel of the same name
7. Cats: based on bunch of cutesy poems by TS Eliot
8. Sweet Charity: a screenplay by Federico Fellini
9.Ragtime: based on a novel of the same name.
10.Wicked: Based on a novel, inspired by another novel, it was originally going to be a movie.
Broadway shows aren't about originality or even good theater. They're about selling enough tickets to cover the cost of producing the show. Good theater is performed off-Broadway, in regional theaters, at colleges, and any other venue besides Broadway.
