A Bangkok firefighter dressed up as the comic-book superhero Spider-Man rescued an 8-year-old boy who had climbed onto a third-floor window ledge, the BBC reported today. The man used his unusual disguise in order to coax the boy, who is autistic, from his dangerous perch.
Efforts by the teachers to coax the pupil back inside had failed. But a remark by his mother about his passion for comic superheroes prompted fireman Somchai Yoosabai to rush back to the station, where he kept a Spider-Man costume in his locker.
"I told him Spider-Man is here to rescue you, no monsters are going to attack you, and I told him to walk slowly towards me, as running could be dangerous," Somchai told local television. The young boy immediately stood up and walked into his rescuer's arms, police said.
Somchai said he keeps the Spider-Man costume and an outfit of Japanese television character Ultraman at the station in order to liven up school fire drills.

Hopefully he doesn't get sued by Marvel Comics. I can see the headline now: Hero Firefighter Sued For Copyright Infringement.

I'm the mother of an autistic son. This story made my day - and was actually stumbled to my by my son :) That firefighter had some very quick thinking... and did exactly what needed to be done in a situation like this. It's nice to hear sweet stories like this on the news once in a while!

good story, and i dont agree with the darwin award comment - thats just hateful and cruel. I just want to know WHY this firefighter had a spiderman outfit in his locker at work. Strange.
