Disney has set a July 16, 2010, release date for the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced live-action family adventure The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Variety reported.
Meanwhile, Warner Brothers made additions and changes to its 2009 calendar: It will open James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin, instead of the sci-fi horror movie The Box, on Nov. 25, with The Box now debuting on Oct. 30. The studio originally intended to open Ninja in 2010.
Disney now has three event movie in the summer of 2010: Sorcerer's Apprentice, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (May 28) and Toy Story 3 (July 18).
Jon Turteltaub is directing Sorcerer's Apprentice, based on the segment in Disney's animated classic Fantasia. The modern-day update stars Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel. Shooting begins this month.

Funny that this article mentions that "Sorcerer's Apprentice" is based on the segment of Fantasia, but fails to point out that said segment is based on Goethe's ballad "Der Zauberlehrling". So, most likely, one would have to say that the new movie will be based on "Der Zauberlehrling".
