The first season of Star Trek: The Original Series lands on Blu-ray disc April 28 from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The seven-disc set includes all 29 first-season episodes and many special features.
The release will include both newly enhanced and original special effects and both a new enhanced soundtrack and the original one. Viewers will be able to select either version to view or toggle back and forth between the newly enhanced visual effects found on the remastered episodes and the original broadcast episode effects.
Also for the first time, fans will be able to enjoy the series in 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, the best sound format possible, and have the option of selecting the original mono sound heard on the series' original television airings decades ago.
Select episodes include "Starfleet Access" bonus content, which allows viewers to watch the selected episodes with special pop-up trivia and picture-in-picture video commentaries.
The set also includes an interactive tour of the starship Enterprise, rare on-set home-movie footage, an inside perspective on what it took to transport Trek into the 21st century and more.
The set will be available for the suggested retail price of $118. An exclusive collectible Sulu figure from Diamond Select Toys is also being made available with purchase of the Blu-ray set; fans pay only shipping and handling charges.

Another gimmick to get Star Trek fans to switch over to Blu-ray. Before long it will be outdated & they'll want us to buy a newer format. I suppose if it drops a hundred bucks in a couple years I may get it to watch on my PS3.

@ Rob: And that's different from other properties how? You bitter trek geeks are really getting on my nerves these days. All you ever do is bitch if they give you what you want and bitch if they don't. Now go back to your crappy VHS tapes of TOS.
This is actually one of the few BR releases that has my attention. When are they going to CGI set extensions so we can see it in 16x9?

Glad to see Trek finally being brought over to Blu. I'll probably buy every Trek Blu-ray disk released - can't wait for other series such as Enterprise on Blu.

I wish I could say this was the set I will finally buy. Hearing "star trek series on blu-ray" I finally thought I could buy a set with 1 or 2 discs and do away with the hassle of switching discs so often.
By not using the massive capacity of blu-ray to trim down the number of discs, they're trying to justify the huge pricetag on this set by packaging all sorts of extra content that you wouldn't have seen on previous formats.
In 20 years when there's a format that holds 100 times as much, they'll manage to package 100 different ways to watch it. Removable media is on its way out, and releases like this certainly don't make me think otherwise.

I won't buy into blue-ray stuff as it:
1.twice as much as dvd
2.compared dvd to blueray and guess what:::
A.used a PS3 and a OPPO UPSAMPLING 1080P DVD Player
B.compared same movies on both
C.the results were that blue ray looked a little better on my expensive setup but not a ton better.
I stick with DVD !!!

Tom Black, what the hell's your problem? You're the only one doing the bitching here. I stated the fact, that's all. You wanna call me a geek? Why don't you reply to this message? I don't think you have the balls, jerkwad.

The only cool thing about this would be to watch Where No Man Has Gone before to look at the sets and styles. Obvious starting point for the new film.

Cool! I may just have to pass along a hint to my wife since my birthday is not too long after the release date. I don't have the original series in any format yet, and Blue Ray has impressed me so far, despite the slight increase in disk price.

Looking forward to this. I will continue buying TOS in any new format. Can't wait for the 3-D version. ;)

Looks like Tom Black is hiding under his rock. I guess the pathetic little pedophile is too scared to make a reply. That's the way it is with his kind. Make assumptions about someone, throw some stones & then run away. I'm happy with my DVDs & see no reason to buy HDDVD & Blu-ray as well. I gave the VHS collection away years ago.
