Meanwhile, the official Star Trek Web site has been updated with 12 dossier files, and the Iconfactory has set up a Trek "hub" from which to download free icons for use on PC or Mac.
Star Trek opens May 8.

Every week now they're releasing a couple of more pictures, logos, or a 5 second clip. It's getting tiring and I wish you guys would just stop writing this up as if it was news. It's not news, it's just a marketing push to keep our interest leading up to the release.
Just release the movie already, and stop treating the fans as if they were 2 year olds.

umm, you know, you don't have to click on the article. You could just pass on by if it upsets you so much, unless you just had to stop by to complain.

Has Abrams Really went and designed the crews uniforms with a material made out of thousands of starfleet deltas'? How Frellin corny can you get. Don't forget to take a bottle of wqine with you to the movie, that way you'll have something to go with all this Cheese!

Chekov isn't writing on the wall, he's using what looks like a stylus on a transparent computer monitor of some sort. It looks like he is doing something the TV series never showed: actually making mathematical computations to plot a course. And Abrams is not directly responsible for the costumes, however, I like the use of the delta motif. It helps tell the story on a subconscious level.

yeah and people on this site say i'm too much in trek.

The "writing on the wall" picture reminds me of the situation boards that are used on the bridges of many navy ships. I'm guessing that's what it is.

Well said, Bill. Way too much love for Abrams' awful work in the sci fi community, while real talent like Ira Steven Behr is ignored. I remember listening to a podcast interview for a show that's purely downloaded and not broadcast at all; Ira had no problem talking about all kinds of stuff and the idiots -- after 10 minutes -- were like, "We're out of time!" Morons! It's a fraking podcast, not live TV with commercials. The man is a genius and he's constantly ignored, while Abrams the hack gets attention for every tacky comment he makes. Pisses me off!

The problem that Star Trek has always had is that it relies too much on visual effects (Although the original series' visual effects were unimpressive, they were top notch back in the 60s) and it's ship. Star Trek is best known not for its personnel, but rather its ships. The characters have always remained purely secondary, including Spock and Kirk.
The foundational meaning of Star Trek is to "trek". Take away the Enterprise (e.g. the means by which to "trek"), you do not have Star Trek any more.
The visual effects, the ship have always been the foundation by which Star Trek exist. The foundation never started with the actors nor could it have. The actors were simply pawns by which the Enterprise and the visual effects were able to be shown off.
My whole point is that while we constantly give the actors the credit for the show's success, the real credit goes to the visual effects department and modeling design department.

What I find amusing is that all the technology seen in this film is way more advanced than the stuff in the original series. I'd love to see "Steampunk Trek."
AND WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR GOD-DAMNED CAPTCHA???

So excited for this movie

If there is one thing that I hope JJ and the new production crew do away with, it's the unitards, overalls and onesies. Seriously. I have always hated the one piece uniform, generic costume in which everyone that was even remotely pudgy looked bad in....I say bring back the space pajamas from the TOS! Aside from the lack of pockets, they seemed to make the most sense...a two piece uniform that seems to reflect a sense of the old school sailor uniforms....

Does anyone else think they've slipped a Star Wars image in? The second bottom image appears to have a light saber battle going on.

Madere, while I fear you are right about much of fandom seeking action and visual effects, I don't feel that this is necessarily the case, DS9 was a huge break in not needing the ship. When ships were used, it was awesome (especially when the Defiant came into the picture), but the drama was always front and center and the writers made it their mission to get rid of technobabble, of which there was little, especially from Season 3 onward.
So, I think you're right that many fans have defined Star Trek so narrowly, but DS9 proved it didn't have to be that way. Even the original series and Next Gen didn't always rely on the visual effects and had drama drive the stories, though not nearly in as sophisticated or determined a way as DS9. DS9 also made some good comedy, too.
That's my whole problem with how our culture has treated Star Trek. There are all these movie reviewers and the mainstream who've watched Next Gen, liked it more than the original series, got bored with DS9 (which was unfairly dismissed for a lackluster beginning that was still far superior to Next Gen's first season and at least on par with Voyager's first season), and it feeds into an ignorant loop.
Next Gen is constantly on top 50 "best sci fi show ever" lists, but it shows how so many never even tried to check out DS9, especially from Season 3 onward; this was an incredible and intelligent show, but people are so closed-minded and impatient.
At least the folks at "Crash" the TV series were open-minded enough to see Ira Steven Behr's brilliance and have hired him to be head-writer for Season 2. I can't wait!

I thought exactly the same thing about the light-sabre, desert background, and low-hovering ship, Trek-Wars. Looks like the start of "Return of the Jedi" to me.
By Elgion at 9:50 AM ON 04/24/09
How about "Revenge of the Kirk"?
I really am excited about this movie though.
By Nid celle at 9:53 AM ON 04/24/09
There's a low hovering ship? WHERE!!!????
By dawn ostroff & eric kripke at 10:03 AM ON 04/24/09

I saw "The Corbomite Manuever" last weekend and Uhura was wearing a gold uniform and in the movie she's wearing a red one. THIS MOVIE IS NOT CANON AND IT SHOULD BE BANNED FROM PLAYING ANYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!
By Giavs at 12:02 PM ON 04/24/09
Tisk...tisk...you all still don't get the JJ-Temporal Experience, yet, do you? You will be able to get the full feel when they open the new Ride in Vegas....
The more they release of this flick the more I am incline to wait for the Netflix rotation on it....
By Muldfeld at 3:24 PM ON 04/24/09
Nid celle, I just meant that the ship isn't in orbit, but above the sands; I just assumed that that's what the light-sabre holder was on -- just like "Return of the Jedi", when they're fighting near the pit monster in the sand with teeth; so gross! Could be wrong, though.
By Son of a Maui Portagee at 7:33 PM ON 04/24/09
Yeah, Bundy, what's up with all those cadets not wearing that Finnegan (SHORE LEAVE) shimmery stuff?
By Provider 2 at 10:43 PM ON 04/24/09
i can't believe that nobody has remarked on what is clearly a picture of kirk taking the kobayashi maru test. i know pine doesn't look much like shatner, but damned if he isn't capturing the kirk essence right there.
By Son of a Maui Portagee at 11:06 PM ON 04/24/09
Provider 2,
Nah, even back then they had the exploding simulator room with the requisite condition that SPOCK MUST DIE!
That's actually Kirk taking his PSATs. But I do appreciate how the actor has caught the apprehensiveness of Kirk as he uses the reflective qualities of his work surface to keep an eye out for Finnegan sneaking up behind him.
By Colonel Worf at 12:49 AM ON 04/25/09
Muldfeld: It's not a lightsaber. Look at the picture with both eyes - it's a metal sword with light reflecting off it. One of Sulu's (canonized) interests was fencing, so showing him with a sword fits in perfectly. The characters aren't on a "hovering ship", it's a drilling platform and the planet is Vulcan which has always been depicted as a desert.

Dr. McCoy loks like "Son of Gary Mitchell". Hhmm...
