Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third installment in the hit franchise, based on a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third film based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling book series, will be released theatrically in North America on June 30, 2010.
"I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing Eclipse," Erik Feig, Summit's president of production, said in a statement. "He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I'm so happy that Eclipse will be carrying on with that tradition."
Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006's Hard Candy and 2007's 30 Days of Night.
Chris Weitz is helming the second installment, New Moon, which is in production now in Vancouver, Canada, for a Nov. 20 release.

This will be interesting to see how different each movie will be with the change in directors.

great they're gonna blow it just like WB did with the Harry Potter series! You just can't keep changing directors and you certainly can't bring in people who haven't done squat!!!!! I'm disappointed with the direction this saga is going in. When something's not broke you don't try and fix it people when will they learn...oh right, summit is an extension of WB(warner bros) that explains everything

Wow.. I didn't believe you were a real movie reviewer until I finished reading your post. Now I know you are. Only a movie reviewer is so out of touch with reality. What director would sign on to direct NINE Harry Potter movies?!

I think David Slade was a great choice for Eclipse. 30 Days of Night, in my opinion, was a terrifying movie. The newborn vampires in Eclipse should be like the vampires in 30 Days of Night...these feral creatures who are thirsty, savage, indifferent, and merciless. I hope he brings that vision of the vampire to Eclipse.

This is too funny. The first movie sucked ass, the second is more of the same. But for the third one they finally hire a real director who's actually received critical acclaim for work in this genre. So sad how much money gets wasted in Hollywood.
