Eagle-eyed Star Trek fans will note the name Mark Okrand among the film's credits when it debuts on May 8: Okrand is the linguist who created the Klingon language in the movies. (Possible spoilers ahead!)
But you won't hear any actual Klingon in the film, co-writer Alex Kurtzman told SCI FI Wire in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Sunday.
"We actually had a sequence that ended up getting cut from the movie that took place on Rura Penthe, in a Klingon prison," Kurtzman said, explaining the deletion. "And there was definitely Klingon spoken in the movie, and it ended up getting cut."
Rura Penthe, as fans know, is the Klingon prison colony on an ice world, which was first featured in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Images of Nero in the prison—and the line "The wait is over"—are featured in the trailer but do not appear in the movie.
In J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, the Rura Penthe scene was meant to explain where the villainous Nero (Eric Bana) has spent a couple of decades in the story.
Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock, meanwhile, told SCI FI Wire that other scenes were cut from the film, including ones of his character as a baby (images have appeared on the Internet) in a birth scene meant to parallel the birth of Kirk.
Star Trek opens May 8.

I hope they cut the scene where young Kirk steals the Corvette and shouts his full name to the Security Officer - sounded rediculous.

He screams it like its suppose to mean something.
Also.. he just totaled a piece of earths history(its not like they make vintage 1960s corvettes anymore espiecally in 2200s), and were did he get the gas or the car...
OMG.. everything else looks good, but that part just kills me.
It makes no sense at all.

I hope they add the tlhIngan Hol back in. Anything done by Okrand is like gold for us tlhIngan Hol jatlhwI'pu'.

Agreed, cut the "...young Kirk steals the Corvette and shouts his full name ..." out and put the other scenes back in!!

You've hit a good point there sunna, in the trailer it didn't seem so OTT but with hindsight that Kirk kid was just plain annoying. Mind you it could have been worse, imagine a young Spock doing some Vulcan spelling bee giving it the 'illogical' large style to some robo teacher...
By trueman832 at 4:10 PM ON 04/27/09
Maybe they can get Jake Lloyd to play young McCoy, after all, he did Darth Vader SOOOOO well. On second thought, just nix the child actor scenes altogether, they're always death for a movie's credibility. You see Kirk born, then he's Chris Pine, no kid actors please. This isn't ageism, it's just a plea from someone who tried to gouge his eyes out during Episode I.

SERIOUSLY!! dont u think this is playing favorites, SF Wire? WTH? how many more Star Trek articles are u gunnu come up with?? why are u doing this?
By Sylver at 4:27 PM ON 04/27/09
They do love the Trekkage do Scifiwire but then again since Battlestar ended they need something to do to keep the wonga coming in...

I have no problem with there being a option for fans that want it to ba able to purchase a Director's cut or a regular cinematic cut. But do that when it comes out in DVD format! Because if you think about it Kirk seems to be what you might call a person who was given a choice of having an ordinary future or making something of himself. In otherwords he had to basically grap on with both hands and prove that he can write his own future. Any who don't agree watch the trailer with your eyes wide open and decide for yourself. How do you get to be a Starship Captin?
By Jpizzle at 4:32 PM ON 04/27/09
well it is star trek, one of the biggest scifi (or syfy now) franchises ever and it is coming back to the big screen so they are going to give a lot of attention. did the same thing with watchmen

I am serious about this. Basicaly you would have to basicaly be the best type of person no matter what sex or race that you are in order to get this dream or goal realized. Period end of discussion.

Woa.. if you guys are true fans then you might remember the T Kirtk flamboyant 1. lover attitude.. that clip is so Kirkish.. like the sun revolved around him :-) i found it a perfect match.. and still compare James T. Kirk with the Old James Bond aka Roger More whom had the same .. erh.... stuff going on.. Btw.. old cars in the future.. have any one ever heard about replicas?

They should cut this whole movie. It's a travesty.
Aside from that, this movie is goin to BOMB. Don't be naive people.
By Johnnystump at 5:11 PM ON 04/27/09
there is noooooo way MATT that this movie is going to bomb not with the huge fan base that star trek has going on.
By billhedrick at 5:25 PM ON 04/27/09
Matt, when did you see it? If you haven't then your opinion is worthless. People I know who have seen it are raving about it!

Perhaps is will make sense when you see it in the context of the entire movie, and not just the trailer. Maybe every question you have there will be answered.

Nevermind your handbags at dawn antics; the greatest flaw in this Trekkage reboot is surely the absence of THE Shat! Without THE Shat and his wig of choice we could all be in for a rocky ride. I've got faith George Michael stylee in JJ but without Shatner's dodgy syrup rocking the celluloid who knows what movie mirth could be in store for all?

i think it would be ok to cut the first 120 min of the movie.
Herberts! if you don't know what it is cahanes are you are one.

It is about time that someone breathed some fresh air into this ancient franchise. The trailers look excellent
By Mechanimorph at 7:43 PM ON 04/27/09
So this divergent universe didn't have a young Kirk on that Colony with the famine and massacre? That could have been used to explain why he was such a little rebel with a chip on his shoulder.
By Screenwriter72 at 8:38 PM ON 04/27/09
I agree, NO kid scenes, Star Wars Episode I suffered A LOT because of it! I also like to see a few Klingons in it, in some little cameo with spoken words said, if not in Trek XI than in Trek XII!!!

Other comments aside, Ben Cross sure looks like Sarek/Mark Lenerd in that pic. Something about the eyes and slight scowl. Pretty much defines the character for me.

I think I get what you are saying. But it is also true that Paramount has sunk more money in this movie with "Star Trek" in its title than it has in any other so endowed. They are probably expecting a far more higher rate of return than we've ever imagined that a Trek film might attain for their accountants to consider it NOT a bomb in their narrow view.
You have to be aware that DVD sales are tanking for the studios across the board which means they have to have higher number of tickets sold to compensate.
And the real world is managing to build up a threat more important than one in any film story:

Paramount's already canceled the May 8th premier in Mexico.
