Tempe, Ariz., won the contest to host the world premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine next Monday night, narrowly defeating Davis, Calif., 20th Century Fox announced on Monday.
The announcement caps two weeks of voting during which entrants launched campaigns for their hometowns. The list had been narrowed to 10 cities before Tempe prevailed.
Tempe accumulated the most "Xs," narrowly beating out Davis in a hard-fought battle to bring home the Hollywood event.
The event was the idea of star Hugh Jackman, who wanted to express his appreciation to the fans by hosting the premiere, in which he will bring the movie and a few of his "friends and enemies" from the film to Tempe.
In addition to the stars and filmmakers, the event will have all the other trappings of a mega-Hollywood premiere. Wolverine opens in theaters on May 1.

Wow, I would have thought given the amount of Texas cities that were in the final 10, it surely would have opened down there.

The Arizona Film Festival group sent out emails to get us to all vote to host it in Tempe no matter where we lived in the greater Phoenix area- good job! YEAH! I will be stalking the stars with my telephoto lens....

When did Tempe get downgraded from a city to a town?
By missMo at 4:21 PM ON 04/21/09
It's always been a town.

Sorry to correct you missMo but Tempe is a city. I thought it was pretty funny that this article headlined it like some podunk town won this contest. Tempe, as of 2007, is home to over 174,000 people and has hosted college championships and the Superbowl. It is surrounded by metro Phoenix and has the largest public research university in the United States under a single administration, ASU, with a total student enrollment of 67,082 as of fall 2008.
