Joseph Mallozzi, Stargate Universe writer and consulting producer, has just launched a blog to share insider secrets about the upcoming SCI FI series.
Mallozzi will be providing frequent updates and sneak peeks about the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis spinoff, including such insights as:
SGU cast news of note: Holy crap is David Blue a funny guy! Yes, in person he's laugh-out-loud hilarious but I'm talking about onscreen where he's added so many wonderful little touches to his performance as Eli that the character has motored past likable and directly into lovable territory.
Stargate Universe follows the adventures of explorers who start off on a reconnaissance mission to the Destiny, a ship built by the Ancients, only to wind up on a never-ending mission when the crew learns the ship can't return to Earth.
Stargate Universe will premiere later this year and stars Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, Brian J. Smith, Alaina Huffman, David Blue, Ming-Na and Lou Diamond Phillips.

It looks like it is just a copy of his other blog which has been running for three years. Same exact posts, but with a Stargate Universe banner on top.

Has anyone heard if this ship is going to be a generational ship ( in other words is the journey on this ship expected to last for a long time requiring children to keep it going), or is the voyage going to be for a relative short time? ? If the need for children of the cast becomes part of this show, many additions to the plot would be opened up. If the concept from Starlost is actually being the idea behind the show, children should be part of the future of the show. Without knowing the time frame of the travelers anything is possible.

It is my understanding that you asked some questions of your viewers. These are my comments.
1. Which character would you like to see explored more?
The nurse. She should be strong and empathetic. She should be able to say the right word at the right time and help to guide the adventure. Her interactions with the other “passengers” should have an up-lifting impact and her overall influence should be subtle but possitive.
2. What aspect of the show would you like to see exploited more?
Humor. You are apparently trying to make the Stargate experience into a shadowy copy of “Battlestar Glactica”. That show was depressing and deserved an early demise despite its excellent graphics. Personally, I want to feel good about the experience of watching SG-U.
3. What aspect of the show would you prefer to see minimized?
You made a big deal about “these are the wrong people”. Problem is, stories of the weak, stupid and glandular are already being told on an overwhelming number of “Reality” shows and low grade anguish-filled dramas. Tales from the dark side of the human condition may be closer to the classic formula, but in watching the Stargate saga your loyal viewers have gotten used to seeing people finding nobility within themselves and doing the right thing under pressure. In this story, you are accentuating the flaws and making their successes merely a matter of self-preservation. It seems that you have forgotten that SG-1 and Atlantis were great shows and you should keep in mind that there is no need to lower your standards for the sake of doing something different (which isn’t really different, because it is so much like other, lesser programs).
Also, emphasizing character defects during weekly visits to earth is a waste of time for your audience. I want to feel that their lives are worth living, not that they are miserable failures.
You could do without the Dr. Who wannabe. Give him a graceful out, then let him get lost in space.
4. What was your favorite “story moment” from the first half of SGU’s first season?
Recruiting the nerd. It was funny and balanced.
5. What element (I’m leaving this one wide open) would you like to see added to the series as a whole?
A voice from the past. Let the ancients speak. In the parent shows, we have been exposed to ancients from the more recent tens of thousands of years past, but the builders of this ship were from a vastly earlier time. It would be appropriate for them to be considerably different from the arrogant and condescending race we have met. Perhaps they would be whimsical and/or nearly incomprehensible.
If Ancients are used in the story, he – she – they would have to be non-corporeal (as in holo-images or teaching-room instructors). They would be used for reference without letting them take over or intrude at will into the lives of the travelers.
How about the proto-Asgard? Not the little guys we have been used to seeing, but one of their predecessors, bigger and more gender specific. One of these could be allowed to wander around, helping out and getting into trouble.
But, not the Furlings.
