Joseph Gordon-Levitt is coming on board Christopher Nolan's sci-fi action movie Inception for Warner Brothers, joining star Leonardo DiCaprio, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The top-secret story, which Nolan also wrote, is said to deal with "the architecture of the mind."
Gordon-Levitt is reportedly taking the role to have been played by James Franco, who bowed out over scheduling issues. He would play an associate of DiCaprio's character, a chief-executive type.
Marion Cotillard is already on board as DiCaprio's wife, while Ellen Page is playing a grad student and DiCaprio's sidekick. Cillian Murphy is also in the cast.
Nolan and the studio are aiming for a summer shoot ahead of a 2010 release.
Gordon-Levitt plays the villainous Cobra Commander in Paramount's G. I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which opens Aug. 7.

Of all of the "Third Rock from the Sun" cast, who would have thought that young Tommy would be the breakout star. Whatever happened to French Stewart? John LIthgow? Kristin Johnson? Nope! The big star is Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

To be fair John Lithgow had a successful acting career before "3rd Rock". I believe he is still very active in t herater rather than television.

He's a very good actor. The movie "Brick" that he stars in is brilliant. i have yet to see him do anything that wasn't excellent (how he's going to pull off G.I Joe will be interesting to see)

I've seen Gordon-Levitt in "Brick", "The Lookout", and and "Mysterious Skin" in the cinema; I wasn't such a fan of the first -- too silly -- thought the second was interesting but unfulfilling, and enjoyed the last one about the mysterious memories of childhood sexual abuse most.
So, I wouldn't say I love his films, but I like that he chooses interesting roles and seems quite an intelligent guy. I also like that he jokes about his Cobra Commander role; it's kinda sad they didn't try to go with something a bit more serious, but I guess that would be hard considering the bad guys go to great lengths to associate their outfits with cobra snakes.
Should be interesting, but I hope they don't make Duke too butch. The early '80s Michael Bell-voiced rendition is the one I've always loved, and one of my earliest memories of a beloved character.
Also, his quotations on imdb leave me very impressed with his view of the world. What a cool guy!
