Ok is it just me or does the first one look like something a kid built out of legos and the second pic look likes its from a kids cartoon show?

By Muldfeld at 1:09 AM ON 04/10/09

As lame as the cartoon was, since it was for kids, Michael Bay has made the franchise so much worse. The transformers just look silly and ugly, and the action is impossible to follow. Spielberg is such a jerk to give this guy millions and let Ira Steven Behr's The 4400 die. Why not finance real artists with political vision and artistic integrity.

"the second pic look likes its from a kids cartoon show?"

....Transformers IS from a kids cartoon show

By Xerxes1979 at 2:07 AM ON 04/10/09

As a child of the 1980's I didn't think my pysche could take another body blow after the death of the true Optimus Prime in 1986.

Michael Bay has sadly proven me wrong. I knew the first one was was crap but obliged my friend's wish to see it.

If anything involves Michael Bay or John Voight then stay the hell away from it. You will regret it.

By unicron26 at 2:59 AM ON 04/10/09

You are all moron's the movie was great it made like what 750 million world wide brought new fans in and i thought that the story line was well worked out sure i would have like to seen dinobots in the movie but thats just me. Also we dont need any political vision in movies we got them already with the left leaning Micheal Moore and Mark Cuban making anti america movies that includes Tom Cruise, Tim Robbin and Susan surranden sorry for the spelling and to finish they got the original voice actor to come back as Prime so check your facts before you open your mouth.

By kebgd at 5:23 AM ON 04/10/09

No Unicron26 the Michael Bay movie was pretty bad but nothing phases me after the Death of OP in the cartoon movie. Dam Hotrod for getting in the way, Prime totaly had Megatron by the oil cans that time.

By the Bishop at 9:45 AM ON 04/10/09

Just because a movie grosses 750 million does not make it a great movie. the art is gone in main stream Hollywood. Grab your MP3 player and just strap into the roller ccoaster called Summer Movies and enjoy the ride. and when you have time. Check out the smaller tents for the real gems of Hollywood.

By DrunkenBoxer at 10:29 AM ON 04/10/09

@Muldfeld-

Lest you forget, it's the movie BUSINESS. Michael Bay, as crappy of a filmmaker as he is, gets big box office results. As movies cost so much to make(expecially any effects-heavy ones) studios(ie investors) don't want to sink a lot of money in something unless they're reasonably sure of their financial return.

The reason the 4400 got cancelled is not enough people were watching it, so therefore advertisers didn't want to spend their money on ads that weren't going to be seen by a large percentage of the tv viewing audience.

Basically, if the great unwashed masses watched films with political vision and artistic integrity, then those would be the big Hollywood blockbusters. But I think it's pretty clear what the majority of the moviegoing and television-watching audience likes...again, just look at the box office.

By Gumbercules at 11:06 AM ON 04/10/09

The thing is, I don't think every movie needs to be 2001, but Bay has taken dumb to new depths, and Transformers was the pinnacle of that strategy to date.

By Xerxes1979 at 12:10 PM ON 04/10/09

I agree with the comments that recognize a place for crap movies in the hollywood business model.

However, today Hollywood is nothing but ripoffs, sequels and questionable re-imaginings.

Remaking already good material just damages the legacy of the original. Was there really an appetitie for another Superman movie?

Why the hell are they doing remakes of the John Carpenter's "The Thing", Wes Craven's "Nightmare on Elm Street"(Michael Bay), or "Forbiden Planet"?

There is even a version of the anime "Cowboy Beebop" in the works with questionable actor Keeanu Reeves as Spike!

Trying out new ideas in existing fictional universes is probably least damaging if done in other forms like novels, graphic novels or animated films.

I found that first movie quite entertaining...nothing that would change the course of history or challenge the human intellect...but entertaining.
Now, please, hurl your insults like scraps of spoiled meat and rotten vegetables.

By DarkDoc25 at 3:21 PM ON 04/11/09

Show of hands, how many people watched the original Transformers show because of the deep involved storylines? Anyone?

Personally, I watched it for the giant robots that could turn into cars. Why do you all need more than that from a Transformers movie?

@mirrorwars
That's Devastator, he's a constructicon. That means he's composed of 5 seperate robots. That's why he looks like that.

By Caging at 3:45 PM ON 04/11/09

Hey all,

Alot of people were saying the cartoon was lame. I on the other hand disagree, Specifically on season 3 which is after the events of the animated movie. I watched the series as a kid and the movie too. As an adult now I have rewatched them all and realised there was alot of politcal sattire throughout the series. Mainly the afore-mentioned Season 3.

One must realise throughout the cartoon there were over elaborations and explanations for kids to follow. Like for example the colours used on the bots and dialouge. The stories within the series were not bad at all. In fact alot of them have been re-used on most Sci-Fi shows and movies there-after.

Its all a matter of perspective and expectations people have on a given topic or theme. If most people blocked thier minds and watched the series or animated movie maybe one would realise it was not bad at all.

This Live-Action version on the other hand is going a different route with less complication (e.g. no Quintessons, Auto-Bot Matrix and Galvatron's lunacy*see episode - "Webworld"). They just simplified it with the All-Spark.

O-Prime in the Live-Action with Peter Cullen reprising the role actually played the role better than compared to the series. I don't know if others have noticed that point.

Anyway we shall see how the sequel will be when its out.

I will admit I'm the kind of person who liked movies like The Rock (which Bay did) and Live-Action Transformers. But that does not mean I don't enjoy movies or series that pull and twist the intellect (e.g.BSG ).

My 2 cents worth.

By IsoTek at 2:04 PM ON 04/12/09

Oh puhleeze, like you guys complaing about the movie sat in your pajamas as kids watching the cartoon for its "political vision" and "artistic integrity". This is a simple popcorn summer blockbuster movie folks, based on a simple but popluar animated series designed to get you to nag your parents to buy you the simple but popular toys. Were not talking greek theater here. If you want political art films (if that is even a reality) then go to your local arthouse theater. We wont miss you because we will be in a dark theater and letting our childhood memories be catered to by watching 2 hours of robotic carnage Transformers style. Sheezh.

By antonjoseph at 8:02 PM ON 04/12/09

Hey guys transformers is all about giant transforming robots, and kicking butt. I am not complaining that a sentient spacefaring mechanical species would not be bound by any of our trifling notions about locomotion, means of communication, appearance, motivation, morality etc. etc. I just enjoy seeing Optimus Prime tear it up on the freeway, and look forward to more, that's what kids want, with a little comedy in between. When you want 'serious' robot scifi you can always pick up 'Sailing Bright Eternity' by Gregory. Lets all just enjoy this with our kids shall we? Benford

By Ranger12 at 11:07 PM ON 04/12/09

Totally agree with IsoTek. Some of you are expecting way too much out of a movie franchise created from a kids cartoon and toy line. It is not supposed to be philosophically deep, it is supposed to entertain and make you forget about the real word for at least a couple of hours.

My biggest pet peeve is to hear somebody say that a movie was not realistic or talk about some part of a movie that could not really matter. Who cares?! Its a movie for crying out loud! I am an Army combat veteran and I have seen enough reality and humanity at its worse and if I want reality I can watch the news. I watch a movie like "The Transformers", "GI Joe", or "Star Trek" to escape reality, not see more of it.

When I am in the mood for a realistic movie or deep movie, I will watch a documentary.

By trauma21 at 2:04 PM ON 04/13/09

I can't believe that there is a debate about this. When I first found out that they were making a transformers movie. I thouhgt it was the craziest thing hollywood thought of since the live version of those ninja turtles. all in all it wasn't a bad movie, true the plot was dumbed down, and to have two robot species whose beliefs are morally farther apart then a right wing conservative and left wing liberal is ridiculous. Then I realized that Bay just made a movie that would be accepted by the general pop instead of the fans of transformers. let's face it, we were going to see it anyway. Oh and by the way the animated movie killed., except for " you got the touched" I didn't now Marky mark song it in Boogie nights.

By jskyywalker at 10:39 AM ON 04/29/09

Loved the cartoon, loved the toys, movie was OK but the robots in the movie SUCKED!!! With the cartoon/toys, they did a great job with the robots in that you can actually see their body parts, arms, legs, head, etc.. But in the movie, you can't make out anything. All I see is piles of scrap metal. If you can't even tell who is who, what's the point?

By Anti-snob at 1:32 PM ON 05/01/09

I'm gonna have to go with Ranger12 on this. Now I agree that Movies are a form of art. I'm a 3rd year art major okay I've studied it plenty so believe me I know their importance. On the other hand they are also a form of entertainment. you go to an EFFECTS DRIVEN ACTION FLICK ABOUT GIANT ROBOTS!!!! to be entertained. You don't go to have some big emotional revelation or to find a deep philosophical truth when you go see a movie about (and I can't stress this enough) GIANT FIGHTING ROBOTS!!!. Just go and enjoy the movie, quite sticking your nose up at something simple you damn snobs. Go re-watch Schindlers List if that's what it takes to truly hold your attention.
