Sick of remakes? Well, then you're in luck: Two competing original movies featuring the Easter Bunny are in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sony Animation is pre-emptively picking up Hip Hop, in which the Easter Bunny decides to retire and hides out as a pet with a suburban family, turning their lives upside down. The tone is being described as along the lines of Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Santa Clause.
At the same time, Illumination Entertainment purchased I Hop to act as its first live-action picture. In it, the Easter Bunny is hit by a car driven by a slacker. When the bunny can't hop because his leg is broken, the driver must train to take over the job and save Easter.
Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio wrote the script; they previously wrote Despicable Me, Illumination's animated project being voiced by Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Kristen Wiig.

That is certainly eggcruciating.

At least it's not Nightmare before Easter. Tim Burton would be rolling over in his grave. I know he's not dead but I'm convinced he sleeps in a coffin. Viva le undead Tim Burton! :-P
And before anyone says otherwise, yes, these films are technically fantasy, an aspect of Science fiction. However that article further down about the Mary Tyler More-esque show featuring a girl named Dorothy from Kansas moving to New York, is NOT fantasy. It's just an allusion to The Wizard of Oz and to call it science fiction or fantasy is just grasping.

Mandy, that is awesome:) Both the ideas of Nightmare before Easter and Tim Burton.
Although while I completely agree with you about the Dorothy Gale swill, I am not sure I agree with you about fantasy being an aspect of Science Fiction. There is certainly science fantasy, but I see that as very different from straight fantasy, which I believe these easter movies fall into.
