Robert Rodriguez, who is developing a reboot/re-imagined film called Predators for Fox, told Ain't It Cool News that the movie is a sequel set on a jungle-like Predator planet.
"With a nod toward [James] Cameron's Aliens, I decided to call it Predators," Rodriguez told the site.
Rodriguez (Sin City) added: "Predator is a masterpiece of the action/science fiction genre. It's been borrowed from so much in other movies and even video games (that will now probably be turned into movies themselves) that I liked the idea that we could have Predators made relatively quickly. What I'd like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in.
"We'd create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has. I think another reason I called it Predators was to mark it as a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker to make a worthy follow-up to a classic, much in the way Cameron made Aliens a compelling work on its own, following Ridley Scott's Alien."
The writer/director added that his treatment envisioned an R-rated movie. Stay tuned.

So,if it's a sequel,why are they calling it a reboot?

"...a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker". Yes Rodders but the fans won't be taking your reduction of a classic seriously.

Are you people idiots, this is Robert Rodriguez were talking about. If any body could do a predator movie and make it bad ass its him. I have full faith in him doing this movie. Consider this it could have been Paul W Anderson.

Yea cause Robert Rodgriguez has nothing bad under his directing belt...
*coughs* Spykids... *coughs*
It will probably be awful though... I still haven't recovered from the vommit that was alien vs predator... or even predator 2.... why don't they just stop and go back to writing fan fiction.

no sh#t i am so sick of these lame studios force feeding YARM (yet another remake/reboot).All they do is piss me off and now i have a formula to get them back for destroying my fave films again and again.
for every piece of YARM they make that irks me i will forego on purchasing 3 films from the offending studio.
Rodriguez is nothing but a YARM director with no more original ideas.
have a good life YARMY !!!!

You all should be thrilled... if it wasn't for these re-make/re-boots you'd all have nothing to complain about.

If I’m not mistaken, nowhere in this article does Rodriguez say he is making a reboot/re-imagination of the original Predators. He just making a long deserved sequel to add to the first two and from the sounds of it, it’s going to be what I have heard a lot of people clamoring for, a Predator movie set on one of the Predators planets. This could be amazing after the mediocre AvP movies. And enough with the “YARM” shit buddy it’s not catching on and is quite annoying.

I read the original article on Aint It Cool, and this rehash of it gives a very different impression. AS I remember, most of what they have quoted Rodriguez as saying pertained to a years old original treatment for a Predator sequel, and may or may not have anything to do with what he's working on this time around.
Stay tuned, kids! There's sure to be more on this once Trek is out and the teaser news dries up.

It never ceases to amaze me how no matter who is directing or what the movie is about there are people who IMMEDIATELY start bitching and moaning and commenting on how terrible it will be. If I remember it correctly SPYKIDS did exactly what it was supposed to do: 1. make a spy movie kids could watch and enjoy. 2. make a ton of money. Apparently he knows what he's doing. As evil as studios can be they can't make people go see a movie they don't like. I guess there will always be people who feel the need to try and bring people down to make themselves feel better. Oh and BTW while I think there were better stories written for an AvP movie I think the two they did weren't the worst that could have been done.

I agree with adams, but let me offer this. You all have no Frellin clue what the movie industry is like. The years spent working on a script, shopping it around to the plethera of studios in Hollywierd. Try it sometime. It's not easy....

I only say this about Spy Kids, it was made for kids, and I have to say there should be some scifi movies for kids only. The whole concept was for kids, it wasnt like they took classic game, or cartoon show and totally hollywoodized it ahem ahem Dragon Ball Evoloution.....ahem ahem ahem Doom.....ahem ahem sorry slight cold. Anyways I can understand for money purposes why they chosen to do this. I mean Predator 2 although not the best was interesting especially near the end, but it just wasnt ment to be. AVP had potential but they dropped the ball. AVP2 wouldve been better had it been AVP in the first place, and released in the 90's. But since the all the predator movies went with the same concept of only dealing with one Predator, (AVP had 3 but 2 of them died out fast) I'd like to see them now as a team, who knows maybe this movie wont have a single human, it would be better that let them hunt a totally differnt alien species, I mean the universe cant be that small, and our imagination has clearly made a bunch of other aliens so much smarter and more dangerous then us.....

I have no problems with different directors trying their hand at an all new story for already established franchises. I wanted to see Cameron or Speilberg do another Star Trek film. I'm just tired of all the damned remakes. I just want someone to write something origional. By all means, hand the reigns over to someone else but be creative and origional. We pay a hell of a lot of money to see these films we deserve our money's worth.
All these franchises we love so much have so many unexplored avenues for storylines one would be foolish not to try to capitalize on one or two of them
