Robert Rodriguez will helm a reboot movie called Predators

Robert Rodriguez will helm a reboot movie called \<i\>Predators\<\/i\>

IESB.net is confirming a rumor, first reported by Bloody-Disgusting, that Sin City director Robert Rodriguez will reboot the Predator franchise with a new film, Predators, for 20th Century Fox.

Rodriguez will produce and direct the reboot, he told a news conference today at Troublemaker Studios, where Texas state politicians were in attendance to sign HB 873, the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program.

"I'm going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a reboot of the Predator series called Predators and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons," Rodriguez told reporters.

Here's how Bloody-Disgusting described Predators: "In the reboot, a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters."

"In the reboot, a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." (aka Aliens)

As opposed to the original Preadator where "A team of commandoes face down a mysterious vicious monster".

Quite a reboot. Very original. Disappointing coming from Rodriguez who is usually very original.

The person responsible for starting the use of the word "reboot" in order to justify unnecessary remakes needs a serious beating. Computers get rebooted, not movies.

I dunno. The cynic in me wants to hate this, but there's also a part of me that gets giddy at the idea of Predator action under the guidance of Robert Rodriguez. The man has done some good stuff.

By lfhlaw at 6:03 PM ON 04/23/09

Perhaps more fun would be a visit to the predator's homeworld by a team of scientists and commandos.

By bolt at 6:13 PM ON 04/23/09

...hmmm could be good.. doesn't really have to be a reboot/make/imagine.. just make a film about it and use the predator.. and call it predator 3... sheesh

now i would be extatic if he was to direct aliens vs preadator 3.. (or any creditable director... or decent cast for that matter) some things don't need a reboot.. just make a sequal that is better than the original.. period

By giavs at 6:15 PM ON 04/23/09

Yeap...it will be another flick to put in my Netflix rotational when it becomes available. Nope...I won't spend a dime on it on the big screen.

By tinmiss at 6:22 PM ON 04/23/09

Uumm... can you say "From Dusk Till Dawn"!!!

By Jim at 6:35 PM ON 04/23/09

Yes, Predator vampires.

By Scanner at 7:08 PM ON 04/23/09

To the negative post (especially the first), what would you rather see... "A group of rogue piano players encounter a mysterious alien in a tutu"? Oooooo it's original!!! No, wait... we saw E.T. in a dress three decades ago... darn, those unoriginal twits!!!!!

What the freak do you THINK a Predator movie is going to be about? Actually, I wouldn't mind an AvP3, or even just a "Predators 3" and I will agree that this franchise doesn't need a reboot, I personally think it needs good scripts, interesting additional material, but just enough mystery to keep people waiting for the NEXT sequel to blow $10 on.

By Nevindoss at 7:16 PM ON 04/23/09

I agree. No need for a reboot. The original Predator still stands on its own. The first Aliens vs Predator is still a movie I pop into the DVD player when I want a little white noise. Star Trek needs a reboot (looks like a good one), but not Predator. Unless Marv is one of the commandoes.

By photoguyryan at 7:17 PM ON 04/23/09

Another re-boot?? These producers, writers, and directors, not to mention the actors will probably make millions of dollars on these "re-boots". You would think that maybe they could put some effort into something original. Re-doing 20 year old classic or mediocre "B" movies, just doesnt do it for me. Same with classic comicbooks turned movie, that dont have any real connection to any storyline.

When was the last time anyone really did something original in hollywood, or another movie making capital?

By gorehound696 at 8:15 PM ON 04/23/09

CALL IT YARM !!!!
yet another remake

to bad we won't be seeing to many original movies just more and more krap YARM and i am on a personal boycott of it.
maybe some out there will also boycott these YARM films.

No more reboots. No more prequels. Sequels, yes.

By noNewKnothing at 12:36 AM ON 04/24/09

The predator was novel in '86 but it's almost 25 years later and we still know next to nothing about their race and culture, save for the fact that they're more advanced then we are. If a reboot is in the works, then a new novelty MUST be approached as well, advanced weaponry....seen it! aliens stronger than us....yeah, seen that too! Fights in lush jungle terrain with a mediocre quasi-political back story to justify the insertion of steroid poisoned commando insertion teams....BORING!!!! Give me something we haven't seen from a promising foundation like the Predator franchise and i'll bite, otherwise I'll queue it in my netflix too.

Reboot is now the new Hollywood buzzword-everybody feels they have to do one. I'll be delighted when the trend fades. I like sequels but have no interest in reboots-as has been said, there's no reason why this can't be Predator 3

By stingo2001 at 1:37 AM ON 04/24/09

"In the reboot, a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." - a reboot of Predator or a new version of 'Aliens'?

By IGPNicki at 2:34 AM ON 04/24/09

Hmm... is this a good thing or a bad thing? Not sure. Rodriguez certainly is a decent director... and surely it can't be as bad as the AvP rubbish.

By Sylver at 4:29 AM ON 04/24/09

A big name behind a bad idea is still a bad idea. The original Predator is nigh on perfect and a reboot AKA desecration isn't going to help matters end of. You just have to ask yourself where is the originality anymore what with the new Trek unfortunately making a lack of ideas seem OK. Well done Hollywood, again the money machine overcomes quality.

By Where's my Remote at 9:23 AM ON 04/24/09

Predator is one of my all time favorites and it's going to be hard to accept a "reboot". Why do we need a "reboot"? Can't you just have a movie that continues the theme? Isn't that good enough?
Most likely I will watch it because I'm a fan. But I'm really tired of all these reboots, remakes, and re imaginings. It's like an insult to the films and televison shows of the past. As if those shows were were not good and lacked something.

Keys up theme to the Six Million dollar man: "We can build him stronger, faster, better..."

By nonfreak at 11:21 AM ON 04/24/09

Is a reboot of this movie series REALLY necessary? How old is it for God's sake? We're re-making movies that are not that old. Hey, Transformers came out a couple years ago, should we re-make that too?

By Aikibu at 11:40 AM ON 04/24/09

If you going to Reboot it why not show it from the Predators POV instead of the Commando's? I wish someone would do a video game where the Preds go around the Galaxy hunting...At least RR may have some creative control if he gets to shoot it in Texas. Studio Producers pretty much ruined any pontential with AVP or sequels.

By TheGigaShadow at 12:24 PM ON 04/24/09

@Scanner

You're "group of rogue piano players" example is lame at best and fails to make your point. It doesn't have to be ridiculous to be considered original. I know very well what a Predator movie would be about because I already saw it. It was called "Predator". No need to make the exact same thing over again.

As for Aikibu who said " show it from the Predators POV instead of the Commando's"

Now, that's a good idea and way more original than what they are planning.

By jbs780 at 2:38 PM ON 04/24/09

Well...we COULD start using the term "REVIVAL" INSTEAD OF "REBOOT"...get a little Broadway thing goin' on, don'tcha know.

Whatcha'll say...Reviaval instead of Reboot? 8^)

Just a suggestion.

By Decoherence at 4:26 PM ON 04/24/09

I like lfhlaw's idea. Maybe a future version, where Human science and special forces teams arrive on the Predator home world, to explore, or steal technology, or even revenge. Possibly and "Enemy Mine" scenario.

Just a rehash without Arnold, would suck.

By Thaqui at 11:25 PM ON 04/24/09

"I wish someone would do a video game where the Preds go around the Galaxy hunting..."

Alien vs. Predator 2.
Don't worry, it came out WAY before the movies and is actually really good. You get to play campaigns from Alien/Predator/Human POV. Quite fun.

By crimsonblack at 8:36 PM ON 04/25/09

Hmmm... "Vampires vs Aliens" - movie title - "Suck On This". How would you hatch an alien inside of the undead?

By Arnie at 5:02 PM ON 07/11/09

Hmmm...why do they always try to go back to things that already have been done? Lack of imagination ,originality or fantasy perhaps?
There's still TONS of stuff that can be done with the Yauntja, but if you only are interested in making a buck...a simple re-chewed script will do , me thinks...shame they don't hire people who's passion is predators(like you have the trekkies) to write the script:then mistakes like trying to let a horror-writer/producer produce a movie like avpr and and as a result have it almost end in a dissapointment will be certainly out of the question... cliche's is what makes these films choke!Let a passioned writer who knows the predators well do his stuff...success guaranteed!
