Rumor alert: X-Files' Gillian Anderson to guest on Doctor Who?

Rumor alert: \<i\>X-Files\<\/i\>\' Gillian Anderson to guest on \<i\>Doctor Who\<\/i\>?

Is The X-Files star Gillian Anderson going to appear as a legendary villain in the fifth season of the British Doctor Who? That's the rumor being put forward by the U.K. tabloid newspaper the Daily Express.

Anderson would reportedly play The Rani opposite Matt Smith's 11th Doctor; as fans know, The Rani is a renegade Time Lady who first appeared in the 1980s incarnation of Who, played by Kate O'Mara.

The Daily Express based its dubious report on an anonymous "insider."

Anderson, who lives in England, was last seen as Dana Scully in the disappointing sequel film The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

I want to believe?

Worlds are colliding! But if it means more Gillian Anderson, I'm cool with universal apocalypse.

By bolt_usmc at 6:14 PM ON 04/23/09

i'd buy that.. she'd make an excellent rani !

By AdmNaismith at 6:59 PM ON 04/23/09

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I'd watch this.

By steve24 at 7:15 PM ON 04/23/09

This is cool, but WHEN will we get 'The Next Doctor'???

By Omen at 7:30 PM ON 04/23/09

GA evil?
Luv it!!

Unless they come up with another "timelord hiding as a human" plot then I think this is more along the lines of a "bogus" rumor.

By smegforbrain at 8:03 PM ON 04/23/09

I'd be an interesting casting choice, but The Rani ain't that legendary.

I also laugh at the original source's calling this one of the many "new" villains for the Doctor.

I am excited!!!

By ARLC at 8:54 PM ON 04/23/09

This is DOPE! I love HER!

By Noirbear at 9:11 PM ON 04/23/09

I would love to see the Rani return. It's sci fi soI am sure they will find a way to bring here around and get past the "all the timelords are dead". Now when will we see Romana

By Steven E. McDonald at 9:18 PM ON 04/23/09

Oh lord. The Daily Fail is just desperate to see the Rani being brought back. I think they've run this same damn story once or twice a year without fail, just changing the name of the actress.

By WAllen at 9:30 PM ON 04/23/09

OMG! this is wonderful and even best actress that sure will give BIG TIME of Dr WHO rate for sure. Even more who pick up the ring were left off by the ash from fire burned where Master dead? It is so good time of Return of Rani and not even the last timelord at all.

By Impaler General at 9:47 PM ON 04/23/09

I'm guessing the Rani has been out of action for so long, she just seems new. I'd like to see one of her "who cares about the consequences?" experiments backfire...so she can think about the consequences after she's in them

I liked the X-Files 2 movie. Just because it wasn't huge at the box office doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie or a big disappointment to fans.

By digitalworlds at 11:48 PM ON 04/23/09

Why oh WHY do websites love to run 'stories' from the rags in Britian!! Bogus Bogus!

By Jill aka The Nerdy Bird at 12:13 AM ON 04/24/09

Ugh! The British tabloids just make stuff up all over the place. How dare they get me so excited! Watch, this will be the one that turns out to be true.

Gillian Anderson as Rani? Sweetness!
For more information on The Rain, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rani_(Doctor_Who)

@steve24

The next doctor takes over the series in 2010 when David Tennant leaves. The actor taking over as The Doctor is Matt Smith. This information is on the Doctor Who website. As for Anderson playing a villian on the series....cool.

So happy about the Rani is coming back, even Gillian Anderson is my favor actress! And plus, will help better rate of the DR WHO show. I wonder the "last timelord" is never end of lost times, alway someone will be timelord forever that never alone.

By suprememango at 11:58 AM ON 04/24/09

if this is true this will be sweet. love to see GA back on screen again and on the spectacular Dr Who. I feel a little faint lol

By jamiekravitz at 1:36 PM ON 04/24/09

I always liked the Rani, though she's only appeared twice, and neither were stellar episodes. Could be many fab actresses player her, though. Why not have her aged a bit and played by Penelope Keith, or Diana Rigg?

By russwho1 at 10:26 PM ON 04/24/09

Dianna Rigg... MMMmmmmmmmm; well, at least in the '60's.

Ya, I could see Anderson playing the Rani!! Most likely a FALSE rumor, but an exciting one :)

By Mandy at 11:00 PM ON 04/25/09

People need to remember she was a villain from years ago. Sort of an evil female version of The Master. This also means other Time Lords must be alive.

By Sylver at 1:57 PM ON 04/26/09

A braver move would have been to make her the next Doctor. I fear Season 5 will be much like the specials; harmless fluff that doesn't challenge.
