Toy Story 1 and 2 to get October double 3-D release

Disney announced the Oct. 2 release of new 3-D versions of the classic Pixar animated films Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in theaters as a double feature.

Disney re-rendered Pixar's flagship franchise into three dimensions "from the original digital files, using the latest state-of-the-art technology," the studio said in a news release. The films will be shown in a special limited engagement exclusively in 3-D, and ticket prices will include admission to both films.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Group president Mark Zoradi said in a statement that the double feature will not only show the films in an all-new way, but also reintroduce the characters in advance of the June 18, 2010, release of Toy Story 3.

"This fantastic double feature will let moviegoers see two of their all-time favorite films from Pixar Animation Studios in a way that they've never seen them before," Zoradi said. "We're also excited that audiences will soon see a whole new chapter when Toy Story 3 in 3-D, directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of Toy Story 2) comes to theaters."

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 director John Lasseter, who is now chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, said in his own statement that the re-release combines up-to-date technology with classic exhibition.

"We're so excited to be bringing these first two films back for audiences to enjoy in a whole new way thanks to the latest in 3-D technology," Lasseter said. "To see the movies back to back will be an amazing treat as well. This is certainly nostalgic for me and reminiscent of my youth, when double features were the norm."

Seems they're trying to recreate the effect produced from the 3D rendering of Nightmare before Christmas (a beautiful stop motion animated musical). I have to say between Toy Story and Nightmare before Christmas though I'd rather watch Nightmare before Christmas.

... and now you can enjoy both in 3D. So what's the problem again? Oh, just that you prefer one movie over another. Yeah, that happens.

KaiUno, I think they've picked the wrong season for it. Toy Story, to me, is more suited to Christmas or summer, not Halloween.
