Writers Orci & Kurtzman say Transformers 2 balances action, comedy better

Writers Orci & Kurtzman say \<i\>Transformers 2\<\/i\> balances action, comedy better

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, co-writers of Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, told SCI FI Wire that the sequel remains tonally consistent with their first giant-robot movie. Early teasers suggest a darker or more somber tone, but the writers said that is only one element of the new story.

"Actually, I think you'll find that it has all the same tone of the first movie," Kurtzman said in an exclusive interview on Thursday night in Hollywood, where he sat on a panel at the Paley Festival on his Fox series Fringe. "The story's a little smoother, and it's a little bit darker, so it does dip in there a little bit, but it has all the same humor, if not more than the first movie."

If the first Transformers shifted between action and comedy with some darker undertones, Orci thought the duo did an even better job balancing those elements the second time around. "I think it's a little smoother, actually," Orci said. "We had the first movie for practice. So we were able to hone in on the tone a little bit more sharply in focus on the second movie."

One of the spectacles visible in the teaser is a scene in which a transforming robot brings down an entire factory. The writers hinted at the consequences of that event. "It could be a trap, that scene," Orci teased. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens June 24.

Just promise me I won't have to sit through the "comedy" of Anthony Anderson.

A nice use of comedy would be having Shia LaBeouf beheaded in the first 60 seconds. It might make the rest of the movie bearable.

Anthony Anderson and that Agent guy from the first movie were so annoying and unrealistic characters that it hurt the movie from being really great.
I don't understand why they have the ruin movies but adding these dumb comedy moments with these people when they have enough good witty things going on with the main actors.
May as well throw Jar jar Binks in there for gods sake!

Beheaded!? How can you even joke about something like that? Small, petty mind.

By TheVok at 10:37 AM ON 04/24/09

Relax, it would be beheading a character, not an actual person. :)

To me the problem with the first movie was it was a story about a guy trying to get laid that just happened to have some giant robots show up.

Michael Bay is far more interested in telling stories about guys trying to get laid than telling stories about giant robots.

And that is supposed to be an enticement to see it? Sheesh...

Walt, man, Anthony Anderson had me in stitches when I saw that awful-looking Kangaroo movie with Rebecca Romijn's husband. He had such a great comedic energy. The problem in Transformers lies with the writers and awful director for imbuing the film with racist stereotypes, including having the black guy call his mother a "bitch" and having the heroic American army guys pick on a Latino-speaker. These are the same hacks writing the new Star Trek film. So, yeah.

Not Anthony Anderson's fault, though he did play an annoying character

Will John Turtorro's Agent Simmons, a highest-level gov't agent, say criminals are hot to a teenager in this one?

I love the trailer but I loved the trailer for the first one. If the sequel is also written for 12 year olds please tell me now so I can spend my money on adult oriented entertainment.
