Starlog has posted a trailer and interview with filmmaker Patrick Read Johnson about his film 77, the autobiographical chronicle of his adolescence as a budding director and the first fan of Star Wars; you can view the trailer after the jump.
The movie was formerly titled 5-25-77, and if you're reading this, you already know why. It stars John Francis Daley (TV's Bones) as Johnson. The film is still in post-production, but you can get a taste of it below. (And, FWIW, Sunday Monday was the 32nd anniversary of that blessed event.)

I saw this movie two years ago at the Star Wars Celebration in L.A. It was an initial cut and had a lot of problems. I can't believe it's still in post production. Still, I'd like to see it again when it's totally finished, to see if were able to fix it at all.

I just watched "Fanboys" over the weekend, and this film looks like it would beat "FB" hands down.
I hope it gets released. I want to see it.

Having lived through the seventies myself, I have to say this looks like one of the worst period films I've ever seen a trailer for. It just doesn't look like much effort went into establishing atmosphere... or costumes... or hairstyles beyond the lead characters. While I appreciate the impact that Star Wars had on the director's life, isn't a movie about how he alone was personally affected by one film a bit self-aggrandizing? I mean if we don't care about the director's work to begin with, why should we care that his whole life has been lived out in the shadow of someone else's work? Doesn't that just say we should be watching Star Wars instead, because his own work clearly pales in the face of what he considers to be the greatest influence of his life? Wouldn't it just have been faster and cheaper to offer to give Lucas oral gratiication directly?
